I am having some thoughts on keeping or selling my Fl2 in 2017. I have owned my 2010 HSE for about 14 months. I purchased it following the total loss of a 59 XS after a car fire.

All has been well but I do have some jobs just starting to show up, a yet un-diagnosed transmission/wheel bearing sound and the clutch has just started to slip (6th gear motorway driving). The car now has 82k on the clock. I am doing about 10k per year and my plan was to hold onto it for another three years at least.

Here are my thoughts
1. Fix the clutch/transmission, stop worrying about it passing the 100,000 mile mark in a couple of years time
2. Cash in the value of the car and go for a 2012 (ish) 190bhp HSE Auto with under 50k on the clock. Our driving is mostly town/A roads with a few longer motorway trips. If I took this route I would be back at about 70-80 k in three years time.
3. Put the value into a nearly new petrol small car (a well specified Fiesta for example) with zero RFL and 60 mpg and avoid possible future transmission issues (which do seem to be an issue with these cars).

I am a long term Land Rover owner, I have a 1991 110 CSW which I have owned for 11 years now which just keeps on going (182k on the original 200tdi engine) and a series two which has been in the family for over 30 years and we have re built it twice ground up. I need at least one reliable car, not afraid of spanners but......

I think you have to look at your whole life expenses when it comes to toys. If you have a mortgage rates are going one way now and I would pay large lumps off that before gathering more toys

No mortgage - get another with a long warranty thrown in.

I have noticed with my wife's Peugeot 207 that it's quite simple underneath. The rear wheels are basically two castors to stop the back end dragging. Above all,as a front wheel drive there is so much that can't go wrong because it isn't there and an FL2 spend most of it's time in FWD an yway. Never thought I would say this but I do so little off road work these days that a 2WD FL2 might be a good option.  3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I do hope so, I paid more for our 2013 HSE than we did for our house back in 79.
We love the FL2 and bought this one as long term keeper

So far, so good apart from the who dented the roof but that's sorted now. We are low mileage users so MPG is not an issue and being the 190bhp SD it tows our 1500kg caravan easily. we can't fault it at the moment and the minor problem is keeping the Cream / Oatmeal interior clean but not a big issue.

I really think JLR made a big mistake dropping the FL2 in favour of something much more "Chelsea Tractorish" 2007 TD4 XS The work horse that earns its up keep

normally the dealer will be interested up to 6 years old, after which they will give you rock bottom price and punt it to the market.

If you can make the figures work for a more recent FL2 with a decent 2 year warranty, I'd do that while there are good examples still to be had. Once they've gone, they've gone

If the figures don't work, brace yourself for sinking a little cash into the current one. Ignore the psychological 100,000 mile barrier. A colleague that bought my first 2011 Freelander now has 142,000 miles on it and it's running just fine

My original dealer ran Fiesta's as loan cars and they were hateful after getting out of the FL2. Bet you'd regret that move!

100K is nothing to be worried about these days on a modern diesel. It will run for more than twice that without much trouble. Clutches and dual mass flywheels seem to be the achillies heel of modern diesels but fix that and youre good for another 80K.
Having said that an SD4 with its autobox would solve that.....

I am currently looking to replace my FL2 when the warranty runs out in a couple of months. However, I am having a real problem though convincing myself what to get. My heart says buy a very late FL2 auto with two years warranty (and I don't believe that all the niggles have been designed out in the later model years) or my head says that for about the same price get a brand new Hyundai Tucson with 5 years unlimited mileage warranty. Or a Skoda Kodiaq, Nissan Xtrail, VW Toureg etc. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

MY15, Just had 2nd Service, only things been changed in 2 years...oil & filter, been absolutely trouble free.
Dealer even commented that they are the most reliable of all LR's even current. MY15
