I've been looking for some decent perspex headlight guards ever since I bought my FL2 18 months ago. Well, I came across these today. http://www.flatdoguk.com/headlight-protectors---freelander-2~2309

Looks like the ones I have (EGR). Just be careful when putting them on and taking off. The plastic gets brittle. The curved section which bends round and covers the indicator area is not that rigid and mine broke off when a passer-by caught it. Managed to fix it but I now have a visible line of epoxy resin on one. Found them useful when going to France a few years back, I fixed the headlight deflector patches to the guard rather than the headlight itself (Easier to clean the residue off the guard than the headlight). Fitted to my last MY2007 very well but a very tight fit to my current MY2013 (so have left them off for now).

Dichloroethane is the solvent to weld acrylic. Use a fine sable artists brush to feed the solvent into the crack. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I've now had two packages from Flatdog and both times the guards have arrived broken. I don't know what's going on here. Either they're sending out broken goods or these guards are so brittle that they can't handle the postage system. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE |

Actually here in Australia they are a good idea, same reason acrylic bonnet protectors are popular, protect from stone damage, big problem when following big road trains.

The evidence from the impact cracks in the ones I had on my Citroens' BX and Xantia suggest they paid for themselves several time over by saving the headlamp glass. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE |

I'm reluctant to stick anything to the plastic headlamp. Also, anything that does hit it also hits the headlamp through the film. Then you've got the possible light reduction and light direction problems. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE |

If you are going to use a film, I recommend Xpel. It's a bit expensive but won't turn yellow easily and has self-healing feature. |
