I often see posts on here by people after replacement wheel arch trim. The stuff you are paying over the odds for from a dealer is just bog standard metal edge trim, sometimes called metal edge protection. The kit from the dealer is cut to size for the four wheel arches for approx £40. You can actually buy it for something like £2.00 per metre, if you don't mind cutting it to length yourself. If you want to be different you can also get it in different colours. I replaced mine some years ago from a seller on eBay, personally I think its better quality.

This area is very poorly designed. Rust sets in under the trims which trap wet crud, salt etc & hold it against the panel edges.

They appear to be fitted because the metal is quite sharp, hence the name metal edge protection. |

I replaced mine with genuine ones soaked the ends in waxoyl and they have still deformed,I'm thinking of taking them all off and putting lots of wax on the metal edge. |

Thanks for this post, I will not be replacing the two that have come off and will keep my eye on any damage occurring. One Discovery, gone

My freelander has 170k miles on it and hasn't had the trims on for a long time, I can't see any problems caused from not having them on.

Aha! Have you had any rust forming where the trims would be? 1978 Laverda Jota. Stolen...

Mine were missing when I bought the vehicle. There seems to be no rust at all, so no issues.

No signs of anything bad caused by not having then fitted. I personally dont go around running my finger or anything else around the wheel arch so all is good lol.

Mine were all warped and distorted and I replaced all with LR parts - the improvement in appearance of the car made it well worth it.

If it's just one you need I have a spare front one you can have for the cost of postage. Part number LR001623. From memory, the back ones are shorter, so it would fit the back too if you cut it. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone 300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease 200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France FR2 TD4 GS - Gone FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge. |

I would imagine PayPal or something,as for the hacksaw I can see that deforming the trim when it gets to the metal inside if you find someone with a guillotine or snips it would be better maybe. |
