Bike carriers

Hello all,

I was wondering what is the best bike rack to buy for our Freelander 2; we need to be able to carry 3 bikes on it, still use the towbar, and to be able to open the tailgate (preferably with bikes on the carrier, but not essential!).

What does everyone else use?

Thanks, Andy

MaxxRaxx - you can still use the tow bar.

if you are towing a caravan be very careful with bikes on a towbar rack when you go around corners. Common sense isn't very common.

I use the witter one that has a plate you bolt between the tow ball and the back plate, (won't work on a swan neck).
You need the one with a bend in it so the bikes clear the tailgate.
You have to lift the bikes off to get in tailgate but the whole rack comes apart and is compact to store.
If I am towing the bike are in my Van and then I use the rack to move the bikes around when I am there.

i use a MaxRaxx towbar carrier on mine, with the height extension for when towing the caravan

i have fixed towbar, but i think they do one for the swan neck also

purchased via roofbox using the caravan club 5% discount, as Max at Maxrax would not price match Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Mine ticks all of that but at the expense of towing. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Check out Pendle Cycle Carriers these will carry 4 bikes and have a spacer that fits between the the tow ball and the tow bar with long tow bar bolts. The carrier sits in the spacer. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

I have an old Pendle Carrier buried somewhere in the garage, no idea if it fits a FL2 really well but if collected (near A1 /A64 juntion) its available on a offer. (not sue if this is in rules so Mods can put me right if need be). FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Sorry YB, you need to have made 2000 post to make For Offers Posts (just made that rule up Laughing )

i suppose you would need to find out its model and so on, and check if it fits a FL2 before setting a price Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
