Windows 10 update for free

We all know that Microsoft stopped giving a free update to Win 7/8 users last July and you now have to pay for a licence. I don't know how widely this is known but if you still want to get it free then all you have to do is switch on one of the "ease of access" facilities for disabled users ( I chose the speaking text option) then you just do the upgrade and it doesn't complain or ask for a new licence key. Afterwards switch off the "ease of access". You don't have to declare that you are disabled or anything, you just say that you use the facility. I have done a few updates recently.

My first pc was a 486 sx25 with 4mb ram and a stonking 210mb hard drive when most people had 386 with 40mb hard drive. Brother in law said "you'll never, ever use all that hard drive". Laughing

I can remember having to joggle around the dos load up sequence to get some programmes to run! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

That was about my 4th PC, my first was a 8088 4.77MHz.

The 10Mb hard drive in it cost £1,200 held 3 operating systems, DOS, cpm & C/cpm, the complete operating and measurement systems for an oil refinery as well as a word processor (multimate) and a spreadsheet program.

does a slide rule count? It's actually an analogue computer, the great things about them was that you looked so smart when you used one. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

My first job as a sales engineer was selling analogue computers.

Even now, I can remember the MD saying that there will always be a market for analogue computers because digital computers will never be able to perform simultaneous equations in real time.

Yes, they didn't stay in business.

Amstrad CPC128 was my 1st home computer. At work we used an Amdahl (IBM clone) mainframe with dumb terminals. I remember it had a copy of the original Crowther & Woods Colossal Cave adventure on it. No way of saving progress though, so had to play the game from end to end.
