Are trackers fitted to all Freelander2,s as standard ..???

Just a quick thought , are trackers fitted to all the Freelander 2 range or just the HSE versions /special editions
or none at all, are they a factory fitted option or a case of grrrrr out your wallet if you want one ..????

if they are fitted is it by a 3rd party firm or do you ring landrover if god forbid your "baby"gets stolen and they initialise the tracking......

just a thought Wales

Pretty sure its only alarm/immobiliser that's fitted as standard across the board up until recent years. Any tracker system would be up to the individual and their wallet.

Of course the newer LR sometimes have the SOS etc feature depending on model and customer wallet but even then I don't think its a tracker system.

My BMW, like all/most new BMWs, has the SOS feature which means that BMW always know where your BMW car is. There are numerous occurrences of stolen cars being recovered by the police obtaining the location from BMW. It is different to the proper Tracker system / procedure and takes longer. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

There was a discussion on this forum not that long ago about whether it's worth fitting a tracker since the police are generally not interested in chasing stolen vehicles. Other points made were that for high value cars they are probably stolen to order and immediately go into a shipping container (faraday cage?) and the thieves know how to find them switch them off anyway. My son has had three Porsches with trackers already fitted but previous owners had never activated them. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

for cars likely to have trackers fitted the car thieves will nick them by whatever means, then park them up somewhere and leave them for a day or two.
If nobody comes after the car, they will return and then do whatever it is they do with them.
This is to make sure a tracker has not been activated and located.

Unless it gets them on some crap TV show and it's a chance to justify getting their helicopter out.

In South Africa, they are fitted as standard since at least 2013MY. The unit comes with a warranty to match the vehicle. Mine stopped working a few months before warranty lapsed, so got a brand new one. Smile

Recently purchased 2011, HSE also had a tracker fitted, I found out when the tracker people kept 'phoning me to try & get me to reconnect, when I asked for it to be removed, due to bad experiences with this unit in the past, the dealer said they would oblige but all Land Rovers sold in SA are fitted with trackers (someone must have made money out of that agreement)! I find it strange that on my car they fitted a tracker but left out the interior alarm sensor (siren is fitted & peeps when double locked), the horn serves for the perimeter alarm & smash & grab film was fitted by the dealer when new , in SA a movement alarm is a must as the thieves break a window, climb in & remove what they want, a bean counter must have earned brownies for telling LR to leave the sensor out. Thank goodness my TD5 has both alarms but no tracker, it would be useless anyway as if stollen it would be containerized & shipped to the middle East to be used as a technical. Whistle "Other" car: Defender TD5 CSW 90.
Ex LR's owned: Series 2a SW short, Series 3 SW petrol 6 cylinder long, Series 3 pickup petrol long, Series 3 pickup diesel, long.
"Other makes", ex cars too many to list here, total over 5 bar klicks covered.

higher spec discovery sport models have a tracker linked to the sos button and LR assist button,
it allows you to see the journeys the car has done and which shoe shop your wife is parked outside today.

A few years ago a local husband used such tracking on an iphone or similar to discover his wife was spending an inappropriate amount of time parked outside another guys house At work
