Looking to purchase fl2

Hi all

Have just became a member of your group.

Am thinking of purchasing a fl2 around 12/14 plate hse.
Found one last weekend but when we went back it had been sold Big Cry
Due to spinal condition our present car is too low and causing pain when entering and exiting so have looked at options and have arrived at the freelander 2.
Have heard various comments about how bad they are and unreliable, but have not really found anything from looking at the posts on here to substantiate this.
So my question is what should you look out for when purchasing are there any obvious problems that occurs, have you guys had any major troubles.....I do like the styling and the seating also there is automatic option.
Any replies welcome

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Santorini Black

Hi Wolverine, I've had mine for about a year now and love it. I had one problem with a sticking EGR valve that was replaced under warranty. I have the auto SD version and it's a great drive, towed the caravan beautifully around France last year for 5 weeks, good driving position, effortless cruising. Good luck on your quest ! MY 2013 SD GS Auto

Mine is at 76k. In it's life it had a transfer box and a turbo pipe changed under the initial warranty. Under extended warranty it had a Haldex fault fixed by software update, a leaking crankshaft pulley seal and a key docking unit change. Other than that, usual services and brake discs & pads. I expect a throttle body change on next service (lumpy shutdown).

This car was the easiest car to enter and exit that I ever owned, even a great deal easier than the current Disco.

It saddens me when hear people told unfounded stories of catastrophic unreliability. I owned three of them and there were very few issues to report. I work with the second owner of my first, 11 plate, FL2 and it still looks like new and has 144,000 miles on it and he likely to run it for several years yet!

Whatever you do get a full extended warranty if you want to sleep at night. My warranty runs out in 8 weeks and I will either renew it or replace the car. Great cars but more trouble than anything else my family have ever driven. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

I got mine due to serious leg injury 2 1/2 years ago. I had an Audi estate which was too difficult to get in/out and squashed my leg to the right.

My FL2 has been completely faultless and brilliant. On Thursday I drove from Yorkshire to the South coast non-stop. I got out fresh as a fresh thing, not an ache or stiff back in sight.

I can safely say, whilst not perfect in every area, it is the most reliable, comfortable car I've ever had.

Remember that forums like this are for people who want help with problems and or faults with their F2. If owners don't have a fault or problem, they don't post. There are forums for BMW owners, Volvo etc, all follow the same sort of pattern as this one.

I'm on my second Freelander 2, and have not had any real problem with either. (Just don't ask me about my D3).

Dont let this forum put you off owning a Freelander, use it as a guide about what to look for, and pick all our brains. ( Rolling Eyes ) Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

I have a 58 plate SE which I have had for a little over 2 years. Apart from tyres all round and regular servicing costs I have had no issues in the 60K miles that I have done in it.

2014 SD XS 35k - only problem a leaking high level brake light & a light rattle all fixed under warranty. Highly recommended, cheap to run & service (in comparison to disco's rr's & other higher value motors)
Go on, treat yourself. Very Happy FL2 Ex D2, D3, RRS, etc. now all gone.

3 1/2 years 35000 miles just leaking high level brake light fixed under warranty ( twice)

Strange gremlins now and again - shaking car after I had stalled it once.. message - EPB not available sometimes. Bings at me now and again after starting for no apparent reason

Just seems that reading about problems that people have on this site with it makes it a bit skewed.

Very nice to drive and hopefully the Haldex, rear diff problems stay away

Just had the renewal notice for my extended warranty drop through the letterbox. With full warranty cover and European LR Assist it's £950. I have until early April to decide by which time I will either go for it or put the cash towards something else. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
