Transmission Fault, Traction Reduced but no fault codes...

I throw it open to the floor, because I am all out of ideas!

08 GS, manual displaying Transmission Fault, Traction Reduced

Plugged in, no relevant codes stored

Happens most frequently after a long journey, but can happen at almost any time.
Communicates OK with all modules fitted to the car
No overtemperature errors in the RDCM
All live data appears to be OK, and function as expected

It has been tried previously on a different generic diagnostic tool, also displayed no codes

Any suggestions?

It is very intermittent, but also seems to occur after 20-25 mins of driving.

If the codes are read while the fault is active, it reads no codes other than the above.
If the ignition is cycled, there are still no codes logged

Mikey,
I'm no expert but it could be something like the haldex filter or haldex motor. Give Austen at Bell Engineering a call as he is very knowledgeable on this subject.

Mine gave the same fault intermittently for 3 months then stopped and ran normally then gave the error permanently. Turned out to be the Haldex motor.

There is not a lot it could be causing the fault, and an educated guess would suggest a Haldex issue, but it's an expensive guess

Especially as it mainly occurs after a few miles and everything's is hot and up to temperature...

I agree but I found Austen very reasonable in comparison with main dealers.

I have no connection with him ( I live in Belgium) but it was worthwhile me driving to UK to have the repair done

Look at the historic codes also. By default the IID tool is showing only the active errors.

Go into settings and select on the error bits equivalent to 0xAF status bit definitions:

0x01 test failed
0x02 testFailedThisMonitoringCycle
0x04 pendingDTC
0x08 confirmedDTC
0x10 testNotCompletedSinceLastClear
0x20 testFailedSinceLastClear
0x40 testNotCompletedThisMonitoringCycle
0x80 warningIndicatorRequested

In other words, all bits (all options), excluding 0x20 and 0x40.

The IID is currently set to Current + Pending faults. Been caught out by that before Embarassed

I have been through everything, including Not Completed, but still does not highlight anything

Then, if RDCM checks out and functions OK, it may be a simple glitch on the CAN bus or with the IPC.

Haldex is on the way out if you ask me, mine was similar very intermittent and would reset if the engine was turned off, cost aprox £600 for new unit fitted through the dealership.

Mine used to show the fault after a similar time (20 mins driving) but especially when in stop start traffic, replaced at dealers for £600+

Have you had a word with and estimate off Bell Engineering ? People travel a long way to use them. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
FL2 MY13 TD4 GS Current

For what it's worth I have had this message on a FL2 that needed a fuel filter change. Also with an exhaust gas sensor on a 2011 DPF model. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
Now Discovery Sport P250 MHEV SE
