Views on Ford Kuga, Seat Ateca

Any views on a Ford Kuga or Seat Ateca (or anything else similar)? I am in the process of researching a replacement for my 78k miles 11 reg Freelander and having difficulty - in fact I keep finding myself looking at newer Freelanders.
I wonder how many of us are in this process? If LR made something decent to replace it I wouldn't be in this situation. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Same as my Freelander. 'One of the best things about the Kuga has always been the way it drives. Under the bonnet is a strong 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbo-petrol engine that produces 178kW of power at 5500pm and 345Nm of torque between 2000 and 4500rpm.'

Ford Edge, seems to get a nod from some who have compared it when looking to change to a Discovery Sport and the kit level is quite high Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

they look very very nice in the right colour, and the spec levels seem to be very good. prices seem to be 25-30k for a 64 ish plate.

England 2015 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Loire Blue

Neighbour has a Kuga, Been in the garage a number of times due to a flat battery because some module or other had not shut down properly. He's quite annoyed that there has been no definitive solution as his wife is disabled and being stranded is a real issue for him. He now carries an emergency battery pack and has vowed not to have another Kuga. FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory

they wont hold their value as well as LR/RR badged vehicle even if the costs are similar initially that's for sure.

Depends if the OP was talking about buying new or used I guess and if the faster depreciation of the Ford (which are very well finished these days) over a green oval, are acceptable.

Had a new Kuga 163 bhp in 2011 ( in between Freelanders ) , very nice and comfortable to drive , average 37mpg over 14000 mls .
Didn't feel as confident with it on ice/snow but I think that was down to the summer tyres it had on . FL2 gone now in 2016 Discovery 4 Loire Blue .

No experience of either. I would look at the Skoda kodiaq though.

But looking around, and some of the prices of the apparent cheaper brands, £40k for a Ford, I would take the Disco Sport. There's a special edition out, the Pure, less than £30k, not sure what you get on it though in comparison to other brands. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

The Top spec Ford is showing on the Broadspeed website as being available with a near enough 10% discount, and Disco Sports around 6-7% . Of course this may mean playing games like taking PCP ( or signing up to PCP and cancelling it if it is a cash purchase) but at least it shows what is available as a baseline to cost against.

I for one am not anti Ford , let's not forget the FL2 from floorpan through motor to running gear is a Ford product with Ford and Ford Joint Venture parts like the diesel motor ! Even the Disco Sport floorpan is Ford derived !

The Edge is a nice looking car, and based on buying a top spec edge at a discounted £ 36k and a top spec discounted Disco Sport around £41 k , you have 5 grand cash opportunity that with a fair wind could be turned into 7grand over say 5 years to offset future depreciation. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

My daughter in law is on her second Kuga and I have driven it a couple of times and like it. However do not expect the same level of help from Ford UK as we get from Land Rover. Shiny bits fell off the radio on her first one and the dealer and Ford UK were no help. There was also a problem with one make of tyre and tracking (can't remember the brand) Ford said the tracking should be one figure and the tyre manufacturer said it should be another. This lead to scrubbing and tyre noise. Again Ford no help, dealer tried and tyre manufacturer replaced tyres if dealer user their settings. Perfect after that. Silver 2009 HSE

While there are still very new and low mileage FL2's around, this should be a nice and easy choice Thumbs Up

The real problem will come around next time Sad
