Tailgate interior trim cover

I'm trying to get at my high-level brake light (suspect it's the source of a rainwater leak). The manual glibly says "Remove the interior trim cover", and I'm sure it is straightforward, but the cover appears to be so firmly fixed I'm worried about damaging it getting it off. Can anyone advise please? Is it simply a case of brute force, or is there a trick to it?

I would recommend you obtain a selection of trim removal tools - allows you to exert force with a much reduced chance of damging the clips or the trim or scratching the paint work.

Something like these ...

Thanks Jules - I'm on eBay at the moment, so will check them out. Cheers.

I've removed my tailgate trim in the past to get at the release mechanism microswitch - I dont recall anything special about the procedure.

Try to see where the clips are and apply force there. Jules

The tools won't help much because of the shape of the cover - just needs agood firm pull downwards - the tool may help when recovering any of the clips that stay on the car

I agree; there doesn't appear to be anything special about the process of getting the cover off - it's just f. tight! I'll have another look in daylight and see if I can locate the clip positions. Thanks again.

Gents, that's marvellous - I can't believe I didn't think to look on YouTube (doh...). I've consulted Powerful videos before and they really are excellent. Thank you for your kind assistance.

Westville - yeah I know - pasted the wrong youtube clip Embarassed

Anyway a bit of extra info may come in handy if the OP does DIY and they now can see that there is a lot of useful info on youtube specific to FL2 - took less than a minute to find those clips using "freelander tailgate trim " Jules

Well, FINALLY got round to replacing the leaky high-level brake light today. Trim does come off reasonably easily, although a couple of the plastic clips stayed in the tailgate - easily pried them out.
