They are just marking the bays and fitting the signs around the streets where I work. Domestic residents get one permit free, £100 for the second and £200 for the third. Businesses, of which I am one, have to pay £600 per permit. I normally travel to work by motorbike and they are exempt and luckily I have a couple of off-street parking spaces plus my workshop should I come in a car and when I have visitors but a couple of small businesses, basically lock-up shops, will need at least one permit for their van plus two or three permits for staff otherwise they'll have to come to work by public transport. Bit of a cheek really - squeezing small businesses or driving them away but I suppose that's just the way things are going these days. Motorists are just seen as a cash cow and are easy pickings for inefficient local councils who can't be bothered to clamp down on benefit cheats and multiple occupancy homes.

We live within walking distance of two tube and one mainline stations and I must admit, parking is a problem in our street. They have a 9.30 - 10.30 am parking restriction to stop the station parkers but that zone ends approximately 150 metres from our house! We have a drive that we can park one car on and the two bikes go in the garage but we often have to park the second car a fair distance from our house if we use it during the week and then park it up after 8.00 pm when the street is clear. An extension of the morning parking restriction would suit us. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

If you want the privilege of parking on the street to the exclusion of others you should pay for this, too many think the area in front of their property is an extension of their house, it's not. |

It's conversation like this that make me wonder how electric cars are going to work in practise. If you can't park your car outside your house then (regardless of the trip hazards of a cable across the pavement) how will you charge it up? Electric is supposed to be a must for city dwellers but I can't see it working. (Oh and if you think that the cabling to street lights is up to charging a few cars forget it). 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

In Oslo, to accommodate the numerous Tesla 3's, they have installed charge points at the kerbside in several places already 🙄

We have had resident parking for a decade. First permit is free, second is cheap, third costs hundreds of dollars. We are many km from industry. It is simply the volume of residents & people coming into the area to go to the beach.
We are working on getting 3 phase to the fortunate few who have garages as we already have it in the building. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device! I've got no problem with residents parking outside my house at all but I sometimes feel like leaving notes on the station parkers cars along the lines of "If you want to walk to a station, buy a house near one" but of course, the wife won't let me. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

The residents come first, everyone else should pay.

I think roadways are for vehicles to move on, not be stored. Resident in an area, or using some faciliy, the parking should be off highway. If that can't be provided the facility is in the wrong place.
