United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Santorini Black
Trying to track down previous owner beginning of reg SV07

ADMIN: Not sure if this is allowed so please remove this thread if it's not.

So I recently bought a 2007 plate black freelander 2 SE. It has only had one owner, in the Glasgow area I believe. I bought it from the dealership and they said it had service history but failed to produce it, which yes I should have walked away, but it's a clean vehicle and I went over it with a fine tooth comb.

I thought maybe the previous owner may have posted here and would be able to provide a little history like dealerships I could get stamps from etc.

Just a thought so will see what come of it.

Thanks

EDIT: I HAVE BEEN INFORMED SV07 IS AN ABERDEEN REGISTRATION SO PREVIOUS OWNER MAY HAVE LIVED IN ABERDEEN AREA.

1 Every car has Service history. A pre-delivery service when new. A slick sales person could hide behind that.

2 No one should really buy a car at many miles without all service records being produced if described as such.

If 2 is your situation sit on them to produce the service history as it will effect your selling on price when the time comes. If they do not produce the goods I would be going to a small claims court but someone from Scotland may tell us that North of the Border its slightly different to English and Welsh law.

The ad said they had it serviced in November by their mechanic so in my view that's them covered if they can prove it. I've checked it's MOT history online and cross checked with the mot certificates it's got so no problems there. I was looking more for receipts for work done, if it was serviced at a LR dealership or by the owner. Having one owner from new for near on 10 years one would think they would have looked after it with services etc.

I'm just hoping they post here so I can find out a bit more about it if possible. Like has the diff been done, cambelt, clutch etc etc.

I probably shouldn't have bought it without service stamps and receipts etc but from what I could tell it's in good condition, plus I got a good deal. Much less miles than others I looked at and a good spec

It has to be assumed that at least some of the services were done by a LR Dealer. You should be able to go to any LR Dealer who can look up your car on line which will show its history, including warranty claims, recalls etc.

Depends. It's already 10 years old. If it's kept it another 5 years, that's 15 years old.
The selling on price will be dictated by market forces, not the service history.

Ct8637 Are you keen to keep up the service history right up until the time you sell it? Even if this means paying more for the services as the car gets older and is worth less ?
Supposing the average price of a 15 year old F2 is around £3000 (hypothetically, of course), then is it really worth spending £600, £1000 or maybe more each year to keep up that service history. Especially if the miles are high. Does the vehicle really need it ?

Is the potential future purchaser going to look at it as an "investment" like a RR classic ,hoping it may appreciate in years to come, or is it just going to be the winter hack. Either way, if market forcers dictate £3000, nobody will pay much more than that just because of a few bits of paper. At 15 years old they will most likely to be looking at owning it short term. After all, most Freelander owners are not Land Rover enthusiasts, so probably won't be bought by someone looking to keep it another 10 years or so, only using it on a Sunday.
Bottom line is nobody will give a damn about the Full Service History enough to pay a much higher price than the market value .
You can prove the number of former keepers before your ownership is only one and the length of time they had the vehicle. This alone speaks volumes. A troublesome vehicle tends to change hands often.
However, If you were promised the history from the dealer, then by all means fight for it. But my advice would be, just enjoy the car. You know what the condition is like. That's what's important. That's what will be more important to any new owner in the future.

Just my opinion. Don't pay too much attention to it. Just something to maybe think about.

If it was a one owner the V5c will have the last owner name also lists the number of previous owners, therefore it should state 1 previous owner. SV is an Aberdeen registration my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Of course never let anything like missing paper stop enjoyment for sure but myself as a principled person (that in Yorkshire means bloody minded) if I was given to believe a car had full/good service history at many years of one ownership it would need to be produced at some point.

My service book (car at less than 4 years old) already has 2 stamps from a local garage. It also shows my oil changes do not reach anything like 15,000 miles meaning its a better punt (IMO) than a standard LR 15,000 mile scheduled serviced car. So to me the stamp with miles done at has value, official dealer or not official dealer. As some garages use good but not C1 grade oil I ensure it is C1 status or beyond or supply my own. The we buy any crap man may try and throw you a curved ball saying it was not dealer history but my bet is if you stood your ground or threatened to walk the price would be the same as if a local garage stamped it.
Service history does not have to be at and Rover Dealer standard prices, at 4 years and above a dealer should be offering the reduced cost service that shaves the best part of £200 of a B service. My wifes second service on her car was going to be around £500 at the supplying dealer, it was done for £173.26 with me supplying my trade priced top quality oil (at another dealership), so cost around £200 all in with full stamped dealer history. £300 is a big saving and can be done.

My own tip for the mechanically minded is to possibly get a lube only service so the service and DPF count is reset and fault codes can be noted and cleared. Do the rest yourself following the schedule as most of that is just tyre kicking.
Even if I do some future oil changes etc myself I would keep receipts and put a note in the service book with miles and date done. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

For those of us with later model cars which do not come with a service book (all online on Topix), it will be interesting once the warranty period has lapsed. Is it possible for an owner to update the records directly or will I have to go to a dealership or independent with proof and get them to update it (and would they?). FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory

Looks to me as an owner you can download new blank service book pages on Topix. Take a look and see if you agree. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I've had a look. Looks like online service records only for MY15. You can pull off the last service, next service due etc, which is stored but no service book or pages. The only page which looks downloadable apart from the summary sheets is the vehicle details page.

Done a bit more digging and registered for their OSH (online service history) system and you can add non-landrover service history with a load of tick boxes to say what has been done. Looks quite good, pity they do not explain it a bit better when you purchase a car from them. FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory

I don't get that when I sign onto Topix with my vin. But now I have the OSH access I can log everything online so a paper record becomes obsolete..

For anyone with a late model, this is where you register

Bit of too-ing and fro-ing with e-mails to confirm id but only takes a couple of minutes in total to register. FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory

Hi CT8637, It's history in the LandRover main dealer network can easily be checked by any main dealer service department. Just ring up with your reg no. and ask them what history is on file. Also have the Vin handy, quite a lot of Freelanders were registered on private plates and the 07 reg might have only been issued when the owner sold the car last year. You might be luck and it was main dealer all its life

When you have the mileage at the last known service you have an idea of how many " lost years " you are looking at. You will not get " stamps" from dealerships for work they have done in the past. 2007 cars had a proper service book in the glove box, no online nonsense then .

When it leaves the main dealer network. Depending on the age / mileage it has done it is not a crime to miss an annual service. I agree with Bob, if a car only did say 5000 miles one year it would not be sensible to do a full 15000 service every 12 months, the Indy my wife uses is honest enough to tell her that " over servicing " an 8 year old car doing 3500 miles is just throwing cash away. I suspect you will never see the service history so the only question is " do you feel you have bought a decent motor worth keeping ? "

As the others have said if it was 9 years old and had only one owner ( which can be checked on your V5c) you would suspect that they looked after it as these cars were expensive to buy new. The big service for these cars comes at 10 years or 150k miles and includes the cam belt It's a fair bet that this would not be done early due to the cost.

So your car is due this based on age in 2017 , and the cam one you don't want to take a risk with. Getting an invoice from a good independent for this service would stand you in good stead if you sell the car on quickly, if you plan on keeping in 4 or 5 years it will have very little resale value so service history will not be that important. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Thanks for the comments. I plan to keep this car for at least the next 5 years or so them probably trade it for a 14 or 15 plate FL2 or get a disco. All depends if there's anything else out there that catches my eye.

I'm well prepared for the cambelt and have got quotes so will get that done within the next month or so. The v5 says only 1 previous owner and it's in good nick. All the leather is in good condition, no oil leaks or anything. Only reason I want the receipts etc is to see if the diff has been done or it's had a haldex service. My thinking is the same as you Martin, this spec would have been near on £30k New so he owner would have looked after it. It's on 82k miles so averaging 8k a year which is backed up by the online mot history and the mot receipts.

I think I've got a good car, and am happy with that I paid and am pretty confident it will do me nicely for the next 5 years when it will be on 130ish thousand miles. So yes, I'm not expecting a good price due to its service history. I will likely do a few of the services myself as I used to on my BMW.
