Clip on weights on alloys

Recently had 4 new tyres and have a very slight wobble in the steering at motorway speeds.

Had a quick look and there didn't seem to be any stick on balancing weights on any wheels. Crawled underneath to double check and they have used clip on weights on the inner flange. I thought these were for steel wheels but after a bit of googling it seems the marking on them (IAW) means they are designed for alloys, so maybe not an issue.

But.... I thought to balance correctly it might be nessecary to put weights near the outside edge of the wheel. Is this correct? All my weights are on the inner edge so would that explain why there might be a wobble?

So lets think about this, I have a selector for mud, ruts, rocks and a space walk etc. Clip on weights added to exterior of rims, now let me think some more. Banging Head FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

The inner rim as a recessed flange so any weights should not get knocked off.

The real problem with clip on weights is that they can damage the paint work and set of corrosion of the rim. Sad

One of the main point of alloys is to look nice. You'll find that on most alloys, there is nowhere to put a weight on the outer flange. When I balance alloys I use stick-on weights on the far inner and far outer of the wheel well. You can set the machine up to balance with just one weight on the inner wheel well. Once you know the position and weighting to be used, you can cheat and just knock a clip-on weight on the inner flange in the same position. I usually do that myself but only on scruffy old corroded/damaged alloys as a money saving excercise instead of using the more expensive stick-ons. Thumbs Up Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Thanks Steve D - time to have a word with Halfords methinks.

If they only put weights on the inner edge, how can that be as good as balancing on the inner and outer edge? I thought that was needed to dynamically balance the wheel (as opposed to a static balance)

Here is a pic
