hi, has anyone replaced their DPF or had it cleaned,
and at what mileage was it replaced at
also was it replaced with a genuine item or an oem dpf

just wondering if this is something i should be budgeting for

I did a preventive washing when my FL2 hits 100.000 kms 4-5 years ago.

Now I'm at 160.000 km and I'm thinking to do another washing at 200.000 km.
No warning lights or problems with my DPF, just preventive maintenance

The Official line:

The DPF uses a filter technology based on a filter with a catalytic coating. The DPF is made from silicon carbide housed in a steel container and has excellent thermal shock resistance and thermal conductivity properties. The DPF is designed for the engine's operating requirements to maintain the optimum back pressure requirements. The porous surface of the filter consists of thousands of small parallel channels positioned in the longitudinal direction of the exhaust system. Adjacent channels in the filter are alternately plugged at the end. This design forces the exhaust gasses to flow through the porous filter walls, which act as the filter medium. Particulate matter which are too big to pass through the porous surface are collected and stored in the channels. The collected particulate matter, if not removed, can create an obstruction to exhaust gas flow. The particles are removed by a regeneration process which incinerates the particles.

The regeneration process uses NO2 to remove the particles from the DPF. The NO2 is generated by the catalytic converter upstream of the DPF. The catalytic converter produces temperatures in excess of 250°C (482°F) at which point the regeneration process is started.

My son once parked his FL2 in a field that had just been combined (he is an agronomist) and noticed smoke was coming from under the car which was stopped with the engine off. It looked as if he had parked on a pile of straw and he assumed that the DPF was regenerating so he drove back onto a track. Everything seemed OK after that but he had no warning. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

hi, could be a useful feature if we have any snow, perhaps your son should apply for the patent asap, no more salt on the roads just freelanders melting the snow,

apparently there is a chap in yorkshire who will bake your dpf for you, problem is, that he is still looking for an oven big enough to get a freelander into it

i think it may be more cost effective just to replace the dpf.
