I've had low coolant warning a couple of times during past 18 months. I just top up with a small amount of coolant to just above MIN.

You could dip it with something like a clean chop stick,remove and place against the outside min and max. I have to do this for my cottage heating oil but the stick is bamboo and 5ft long.

Bad design ? I think we have to remember these are mongrels and have anything from a Volvo, Ford to what you like in them.

my car is an 07 & the coolant bottle has MIN & MAX clearly marked. |
