Am a proud owner of a used 2012MY SD4 HSE in Santorini black, and have been busy keeping it nice and shiny! I've owned a Td4 Freelander for the past seven years, and the difference between both models are vast (to say the least). I'm hoping what I read about the FL2 reliability is correct, as I could write a book on the issues I've faced with the Td4!

That dashboard looks the same as mine which makes me question, why wasn't there one in there as standard as it's an HSE?

I thought it was a standard fitment along with a rear spoiler on the SD4?

Already in the SE model navi is standard, a bit strange but cool car, i like the interior color and wood trim

I guess so in other countries; however in Malaysia no spoiler and no navigation for the SD4 HSE. Navi was of course standard when the MY2013 facelift was introduced here. In fact, my SD4 didn't come with 8-way driver's seat (only 6-way), and didn't have AFS headlights as well. Regards,

Just look at car recalls https://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/952855 and the Freelander is one of the best! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Recalls is nothing to do with reliability, they are generally about safety issues. By rights LR should have had a recall on rear diffs, haldexes, wheel bearings and a few other things that are regular failure issues. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

No heated seats or heated front screen either. I guess in hot countries they change the spec of the HSE compared to the wet and frosty UK!!

Thought I would offer some updates in the last half a year that I've had the Freely.

It's a dream to drive. I had the opportunity to test drive an SD4 a few years back when I still had my FL1, and I knew then that the FL2 was going to be the next car on the list.

In all honesty I was fond of my FL1, but was completely happy to see it go. I had probably accumulated a lifetime at the local workshop repairing something that broke every few months (turbo solenoid, fuel pump, VCU bearings, injectors, etc. etc.).

I'll have to touch something wooden as I say this, but it's been blissful not having to visit the LR workshop in the last 6 months..

First thing was to carry over the Scan Gauge II from my FL1.
I set the display to show, amongst others, coolant temperature and battery voltage. Scan Gauge has a habit of overstating fuel consumption by about 5%, while the onboard computer tends to understate by 5%.

The ten spoke turbine wheel is, in my opinion, LR's best design (the D4's twin five spoke design, the one that comes with the Landmarks, is super, too).

The tyre is a Landsail LS588 SUV, which came with the car that I bought from a second hand dealer (ZR rated, 105W). It's a Chinese brand and I think that not many people (including me) have heard of this brand.

From what I read, the brand started out in the budget category before moving up the ladder. The UHP version of it seems to have beaten some other established brands.. http://www.tyrepress.com/2015/03/landsail-...tyre-test/

This are my first 19" tyres so I don't have a point of reference - but no complaints so far. Lots of brake dust, though, so I have to clean the wheels every few days.

I used to run Land sails on my BMW and Audi, budget price but premium quality. Very good tyres ! Won some awards and beat some premium brands for their winter tyres I believe 👍🏻

Thought I'd share some mods and enhancements on the Freely, in no particular order.

The exhaust tip has an oval (and large) shape so it took a while on the Internet to find one that fits. Modified it a bit so that the nuts are located inside (something like a wedge against the standard tip), instead of protruding outside of it.



Exhaust tip weights 400grams if anyone is interested.. I cannot escape my road bike habits..



It does jut out a fair bit though.

Added a satin finished trim for the front door tweeters.



It does add a bit of an elegant touch.
