Any technician should be able to use a micrometer to measure the disc thickness. Ignore the rusty lip though, measure the "swept" area only. Bob 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone) 08 FL2 TD4 SE Manual in Rimini Red (Now Gone) |

If you have a diesel FL2 and you have to change front discs, you can do a little upgrade using petrol front discs. you only have to change caliper carriers. Pads are the same. worth it |

I had front and rear pads and discs repaced at 70k miles and I tow a 1700kg caravan. In my experience with non asbestos friction material the discs wear out a lot quicker than they used to. It also seems a better bet to change both at the same time rather than change just the pads and then having to relace them again because the discs need replacing. Have you tried Steve at Advanced Factors for a price to supply the parts? Not hard to fit, so you could source the parts (if they are needed) and get someone to fit them. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

Factors can be very useful but they often carry 2 grades of brake components.

I tow a 1700kg caravan and the pads lasted 70k miles. In my experience since pads have been non asbestos they last longer but do put more wear on the discs. It seems good practice to me to have new discs with new pads if only to save having to replace the pads again because new discs are needed between pad changes. When I checked dealers charge for the pads was exactly the same price as I could buy genuine LR ones on line. Remember there are never problems, just new challenges |
