Thanks for the feedback and photos Dan. Was a pleasure to meet you and really good to get some real world feedback on the results of a simple service. Just sorry you were hanging around longer than normal, congested workloads and family commitments didn't help. www.bellengineering.co.uk

CT I bit the bullet this last Spring and I am only just down the road from you. Secret is to make it a small overnight holiday, B&B in pub with real ale and curry all in walking distance of the workshop.

Not a chance of me doing that locally with the wife breathing down me neck. Laughing FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Does the Haldex have a filter? I only ask as I had a new Haldex pump fitted last year, guy I use said that the FL2 Haldex only has a piece of gauze, not a proper filter. The mechanic said that's why there are problems with the Haldex on the FL2 as its sealed for life where as Audi for example have a filter and service schedule for changing the filter.

Hi Stevie

I've just PM'd you about this so that's what ita about

Thanks

Hi,

After reading a few threads about servicing the Haldex, I think this should definitely be on my to-do list. I has recently acquired a -07 FL2 with 130k miles on the clock, serviced regularly at the LR dealer from new by one owner. I guess that this means that the original fluid inn all the transmission boxes are still there and a need for fluid replacement is a good thing to do soon. There is so far no evidence to me that things are worn out like the Haldex or rear diff, but a fluid change may do good Smile What are your recommendations??

Do it my friend and have the Haldex stripped and cleaned adding a new filter. Mine are all done and it is still only 4 years old.

Your cam belt (if a 4 cylinder diesel) will need replacing if not already done. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

OK. So after reading several posts about this issue, I still have a few questions:

1. What are the correct socket size for the prop shaft flange center nut?

2. What are the correct tightening torque of the center nut? I guess Loctite 243 are needed?

3. What are the best fluid to clean the Haldex unit in?

4. What are the correct procedure for filling the Haldex unit?

5. What are the correct oil spec for the rear differential?

6. Since the Haldex filter is just a mesh filter (as I understand), would it be re-useable by rinsing and cleaning with pressurized air?

Thanks for any advice Smile

I can answer some of these but most is on the site by searching.

OK. So after reading several posts about this issue, I still have a few questions:

1. What are the correct socket size for the prop shaft flange center nut?

No idea, wold just select from my tool kit.

2. What are the correct tightening torque of the center nut? I guess Loctite 243 are needed?

. WARNING: Make sure that a new nut is installed. Using the special tool, install the drive flange.
Special Tool(s): 205-053 Torque: 130 Nm

3. What are the best fluid to clean the Haldex unit in?

Paraffin should be OK

4. What are the correct procedure for filling the Haldex unit?

Fill the active on-demand coupling, until a thin thread of fluid runs from the filler hole.
Install the active on-demand fluid filler plug.
Turn the ignition on for 5 minutes.
Turn the ignition off.
Fill the active on-demand coupling, until a thin thread of fluid runs from the filler hole.
CAUTION: This is a filler plug only and must not be used as a fluid level indicator. Using a syringe, remove exactly 70 ml of fluid.
Replace the washer. Install and tighten the filler plug.
Torque: 35 Nm

5. What are the correct oil spec for the rear differential?

Castrol EPX 80W90, LR Part no. LR003156, 0.7 liters (I used Millers oil) but remember you have asked about the diff oil as the Haldex oil is not the same oil spec.

6. Since the Haldex filter is just a mesh filter (as I understand), would it be re-useable by rinsing and cleaning with
pressurized air?

Incorrect, there is a changeable filter and a mesh one you can clean. Volvo filter is the same and cheaper in UK

New prop shaft bolts are specified to be tightened to Torque: 40 Nm
