Power steering and AC belt. change petrol gas LR2 2008

Hey all. I have an 08 gas (petrol) LR2. When rebuilding the vacuum pump (which I will be writing up the procedure on here) I noticed the ac/power steering belt could stand to be replaced. I picked up the oem belt and went to work. I assumed (in error) that it would be as simple as releasing the tension on the tensioner and swapping the belt. Boy was I wrong! How the H-E- double hockey sticks do you get the belt out of there. I can relieve the tension and get the belt off the idler pulley but there in zero room between the engine and the power steering pulley to remove the belt. Also at the other end I don't see any room to pull the belt between the ac pulley and the engine. Before I go pulling the power steering pump and AC compressor is there a better way to get this belt off and on? Seems way too complicated for a simple belt change.

Not looked but can you take off the wheel and then the inner plastic wheel arch to get in there ? FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

The problem isn't lack of working room. On the gas engine The idler pulley is attached to the back face the engine (pointing to the driver side) The air-conditioning compressor, the power steering pump and the tensioner pulley are mounted on top of the transmission (with the face of the pulleys facing passrnger side). All of those pulleys line up. To remove the belt you would have to release the tension on the tensioner, pull the belt towards the driver side off the idler pulley, then push the belt to the passenger side on the air conditioning and power steering pulley's. The problem is there's no clearance between the power steering and ac pulleys and the face of the motor. Only way I can figure to do it just to pull the compressor and pull the power steering pump pre install the belt on them and put them back and then apply tension. That just seems nuts to me.

I'm guessing from the lack of responses there's not too many gas 3.2l over there across the pond. 🤔

I did mine last year and if I recall correctly the PS pump and AC compressor need removing. The Topix description makes it seem a much simpler job than it actually is and doesn't mention half of what's involved.

So I just completed this job. What a nightmare. Was even worse than I thought. I really thought I would get in there and pull everything apart and and go oh! that's how you do it the easy way....No. Not a repair for those that question their mechanical ability. I'll work on a write up tonight and post the link here.
