Sat nav update

Hi all,

According to my dealer Land Rover is not releasing new updates for the MMM2 sat nav system anymore.

I found people here in this forum using Volvo disks in their FL2 and they seem to work OK. I also found that Volvo is planning to release new 2016 disks for MMM2 sat nav systems end of this year, I can order them already here http://www.parts4swedes.nl/nl/product/rti-...-s80-xc90/ for 179 euro for Europe with Eastern Europe. A lot less then Land Rover is asking for older disks, Land Rover last release for Europe with Eastern Europe is 2012/2013 and cost 329 euro. The company selling them claims they only sell original Volvo parts so I think they also only sell original DVD's. They expect they can deliver them in week 3 of 2017.

So what do you think, will these disks work in a FL2?

Thanks.

Great tip if true.

Would love to hear other peoples views or from someone who has tried it.

The problem with the MMM2 satnav for LR is that it doesn't cover Cyprus as part of the Europe maps, does anyone know if Volvo do? at the moment the Satnav is only any good as an extra clock Crying or Very sad my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I looks like Volvo also has a Turkey map that covers Cyprus:

If it covers whole Cyprus I do not know but it looks like is does if you look at the image. Also for this map a update will be available for 2016 (Volvo part nr 31489416).

The biggest question is still: will these new Volvo updates work in a FL2?

Hi Guys,
For what it's worth I attach a copy of the "estimate" for supplying 2017 maps for the Sat Nav on a Freelander 2 - you know as much as I do ! ! Needless to say I have not / will not be purchasing - especially as Tom Tom will provide a complete and very efficient system for less that this ! Thud

Is this an estimate for original Land Rover DVD's with maps of 2017? I just chatted with someone of HERE Europe (the company selling the updates for Land Rover apparently) and she wrote me Land Rover is not issuing new updates.

I know Tom Tom (or Garmin or whatever) has newer and better maps for less money. But what to do with the build in one? I know people here have mounted an aftermarket sat nav in cars that did not come with a sat nav, have not found anyone yet who has replaced the original one with another.

It is a good idea to read the whole thread before you post! Whistle (The OP has a 2013 car with the HDD Sat Nav.) Yes, it is true the 2007-2012 Sat Navs will not be blessed by a LR Update! Rolling Eyes 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

I started this thread. I did not see the estimate was for a 2013 car. Sorry.

I know Land Rover is not releasing new maps for my car (a 2012 with MMM2 sat nav). I was just wondering if the new 2016 Volvo maps (will be released early next year) for MMM2 system might work. I was reading some people here use recent Volvo maps in their FL2 and am wondering of some people had issues using them.

I might as well order the new Volvo disks and see if they work. The only thing stopping me is that I am afraid the disks contain a firmware update that is incompatible with my sat nav.

Sorry Grumsel, I did not notice it was your original thread. (I too should have read everything Embarassed )
Re the Volvo discs, I previously used an earlier set which worked fine. I now have a 2016 UK copy disc I bought from a seller on Facebook plus a set of genuine 2011? discs for the rest of Europe. I sold on the Volvo set to a forum member. It was frustrating that the Volvo blurb advised of "Over 4000 speed cams". The LR system cannot see them and has no means to tell you they are there anyway!

I tied a Volvo version a little while ago, it worked okay apart from the voice which was silenced - I have a 58 plate SE

Hi Bob,

I bought a set of discs on a website I found in this forum. They claimed they had 2016/2017 maps from Land Rover but when I popped them in the DVD drive of my laptop I noticed the file dates are from 2014, the sat nav in my car thinks they are 2015 maps (checked in the secret menu). Also a road that I know that is finished end 2015 is not on the map. So I guess the discs are copies of the 2014/2015 Land Rover disks (the last official release).

179 euro for a set of discs for the whole of Europe is expensive but I rather buy official disks then copies because I know that copied disks do not last as long as originals. And when buying copies I also feel ripped off, especially when the disks are not that what the seller claims.

I will either download them somewhere, check them and if found correct write the disks or I buy originals.

Grumsel

Hi CJOver,

Thank you for the info. So you lost sound with the new discs? No sound at all? Did you try the old discs after that? Were they still working OK with sound.

The sound is horrible sometimes using this sat nav. I selected the Dutch language and there are clearly 2 voices mixed up. Most of the time one voice is telling me where to go but sometimes all of a sudden a different voice comes in between.

My biggest worry is that the new Volvo discs do "something" which makes the whole sat nav useless. I think I could try and if it breaks put the old disc back and go back to the dealer and say "I did nothing, it just stopped working." since I still have warranty for a year. But this also feels a bit like cheating...

The old discs worked properly - I put it down to the Volvo system working differently to the LR system. I replaced it a while later with a LR version that I got from a different supplier (not LR) who claims to supply proper LR discs at a much cheaper price these work properly with sound instructions. (PM me if you want their details - not for public consumption on the forum)

I am very happy with my orignal LR-HDD satnav... Every time I end up -stuck- in Paris, and I turn my head to see where TomTom wants to send me down -another traffic jam- , I quickly turn on the LR-SN, type in any location in the general direction that I want to go and presto : in five minutes I'm driving normal speed, no traffic jams on my route anymore... ..and it doen't even has traffic info.. magic..

I don't have a clue why, but this happened to me 3 times in Paris. I am now programming Paris as "no-go" zone for the TT...

Grumsel, In answer to your question:
"Is this an estimate for original Land Rover DVD's with maps of 2017? I just chatted with someone of HERE Europe (the company selling the updates for Land Rover apparently) and she wrote me Land Rover is not issuing new updates."
Lookers said they would have to install the updates which meant letting them have the car. From what was said I would not be getting any disks. Sorry if I have "muddied the water" - just thought it might be relevant! Crying or Very sad
