Steve , when in the house she is fine , but as soon as she goes out she limps , and limps badly. People that have had dogs have told us to use sudocrem , but it doesn't seem to work. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

pads harden up with walking, but if she has not been walked for a while on hard surfaces then they will go soft.

use the sudocrem, keep her walking on softer ground as much as possible, and restrict her pulling on the lead as much as possible.
Let the pads recover and then gradually re-introduce the hard surface walks until they harden up again.

Think of the dogs pads like the tyres on your car, when driven gently they bed in and last for miles, when you drive hard the tyres are digging in for traction harder and will wear quickly.

Animals very rarely show pain, and generally will self manage when they can. By refusing to walk outside she knows it will cause her pain so wants to stay on the soft shag pile carpet.

As has been said, most (not all) vets want to increase profits and will welcome over cautious owners with open arms.

Thanks Rog .. we have that cream but she just licks it off .., she won't go out for a pee , she has to be carried to the grass in the back garden , the other paw is looking red now . We don't have carpet in the house but it doesn't stop her jumping about .. when we bring her in from the garden she sits and licks her paw for ages .. this has been going on since Wednesday , seems to be getting worse. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

dogs will eat anything, especially spaniels (although my Springer doesn't like fruit, salad or vegetables Laughing ) so sudocrem is probably like an ice cream for her! Very Happy

Mine suffers from a dry ridge on her nose, we used to put moisturiser on it but gave up as she licked it off straight away every time.

the only way round it is to put the cream on, then bandage her paws up securely until its absorbed. Easier said than done (a lot easier! )

the vets will prob only give you an antiseptic moisturiser to put on but if your efforts aren't working it may be your only option.

We haven't used them but friends of ours use these when their dogs have tender/sore feet.

We took bailey to the vet yesterday, both front paws looked skint , no idea why as I've been carrying her from the house the grass in the back garden to save her from walking on the patio.
The vet said that they weren't cut , we have tablets that are steroids and pain killers , we also got a cone of shame to stop her licking her paws.
