KEY FOB

hi all,one of my key fobs will not open the car,i can unlock it with the other set and then slot it in to start up and run,if the battery inside is low how long does it take to get it up to full charge.?

secondly, when I had my last d3 around 4 years ago,a lot of the guys used Yeovil landrover shop run by" THE LARGE ONE"(NICK)WHERE WE GOT AROUND 20% off of gen parts Thumbs Up .it seems nick "retired"around 2 years ago,and he said he was handing over to the rest of the spares team to look after the forum, anyone dealt with them.?
cheers

key fob

I don't know how long it takes to charge a key fob fully. Since I have had my FL2, I have changed the fobs every weekend, and I have never had a problem. (holding onto wooden table leg as I type!) I would use the dodgy one in the ignition for a while, and if it doesn't respond, you may have to replace the battery. There is a post somewhere telling you what to do.

there is a youtube video showing how to do it,it does not look easy as the fob has to be prised apart,it has a sealant around it as well so this makes it harder.when you finaly get to the inside the battery is under the printed circuit, but it has to be unsoldered before you can get it out.
there are a couple of company,s on ebay that specialize in these keys one is "mrsporty"advertising fl2key fob service, his feedback rating is 99.7% over 12540 listings so seems to be v/good,it costs around £39.they strip the key supply a new fob replace battery and check all the leccy,s inside and guarantee it for a year the turnaround is a couple of days,if my key does not charge fully I will use them.
course we could always go to our friendly stealer and spend a couple of hundred Big Cry

I believe a new key fob has to be with the car to programme it... probably a dealer job but someone here will know for sure.

These fobs are not reprogrammble so do not buy a used one from the bay of fleas regardless of what the seller says.

if you believe what the stealers say then fine, some are very good some not.this company has a lot of positive feedback though.not all sellers on fleabay are scroats.

Rather dismissive of you...

I don't doubt that your fleabay seller has a lot of positive feedback and I made no suggestion that all sellers are 'scroats'. Whether or not 'I believe what the dealers say' is quite irrelevant as I have never had a key fob problem.

There are many threads about key fobs on this site... search using 'Key Fob' and you shall be duly rewarded. In the mean time though, here is one such thread:

http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic10656.html?highlight=key+fobs

Replacing a fob casing and/or battery is one thing but supplying a fully programmed keyfob is quite something else and my understanding that a second hand key cannot be reprogrammed is unchanged.

hardly dismissive, simple really.this is not "my fleabay seller"i found a number of companies offering similar services on google, his feedback is excellent, that is very important as far as I am concerned.he is offering a key refurb service at what seems a good price, whether or not he can supply new extra keys I have no idea.but surely there can be no harm in asking the question.
one of my keys on my recently acquired fl2 was dead as a dodo,i went to my local dealer(excellent as far as I am concerened)having in the past bought a d3 and a fl2 demonstrator a few years ago from them.i mentioned the key and he advised as other forum members did to use the dead key for a while, after a week it seems to be working ok Thumbs Up
