United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Lago Grey
Back to the love of a Green Oval

Hello All,

Thought we would introduce ourselves whilst scrolling through black friday deals, and also possibly ask a few questions of you esteemed lads and lasses.

We have taken the plunge and gone back to owning a Freelander after owning a 2000 FL1, which I loved but wife wasnt too keen on after the usual issues, then the rear diff went and that was the end of that. So this week after our generic Japanese motorway cruiser sprang an oil leak coating our monoblock driveway with a slick BP would be proud of (any clues to remove it?), we went out and have acquired a lovely 2011 (I think Pre facelift) Freelander 2 GS in what I am lead to believe is Orkney Grey with 60k miles on the clock. So for the first time in a long time I am looking forward to massive snow drifts, so can go and play. We keep commenting on how the car looks and drives like it is just out of the factory.

A few questions, at the beginning of the week when we got the car it apparently had 1/2 a tank, but randomly the gauge would drop to empty, and then slowly climb back up, I then filed up the tank to be on the safe side and it took 3/4s and for the last 100miles or so there has been no occurrence. Is this possibly the case of the dodgy fuel sender I've seen mentioned? Also I think I do miss is a centre arm rest/cubby hole, I see there are some on ebay for under £100 that just seem to fit in, does anyone have experience of these or can maybe suggest something better?

Also towbar Removal is this easy enough, with all the electrics etc, I personally dont mind it as think its a nice extra to the reversing sensors but wifey thinks its a bit unsightly and rusty.

Does the headlamp washer ever not make you giggle a little inside, the little left/right/left/right squirt, if it all went in one go I dont think I would have thought about it for a second, however i know giggle a little every time, but then again I am regularly called a man child Very Happy

Thank, and I'm sure i will be asking a lot more as the time goes on!
Alex(andclare)

Just clean and paint the towbar and buy a new towball cover ,save the hassle of removing it Laughing and besides it will put people off parking to close to your rear bumper ,just do a search on the forum for fitting the cubbybox and I would get the dealer to check the headlamp washers and fuel gauge if it's under warranty .

I have the arm rest / cubby box and it's brilliant should have been there as standard. I also find the left right dance of the headlight washers amusing!

to clean oil spills, damp the area and sprinkle non biological washing powder all over it then spray more water on so it's well damp but not washed away, leave for a day or two then hose off. Common sense isn't very common.

On the tow bar question, both the tow bar and the electrics (assuming OEM plug in kit) are very easy to remove but the car will need to be plugged in and 'reprogrammed' - main dealer or Landy independent - afterwards.

Why not just remove the tow ball and leave the rest in place?

Enjoy your car.

Thanks for the tips, i will try the coke and treat the tow bar, it has a nice cover, its just the arms seems a bit rusty.

A further thing i forgot to ask, does anyone have any recommendations for a boot liner as our yellow Lab loves car rides and the black boot lining has turned a few shades lighter with all the hair, our vacuum picks it up all ok, but would rather not vacuum it every weekend.

Thanks

Can i ask which cubby box you have and does it interfere with the rear 12v/aux input?

The usual armrest/box is absolutely fine and so good that LR have copied it as a standard fitment on the DS.
Regarding towbar, investigate your insurance. A piece in today's Guardian suggests that adding a towbar can LOWER your premiums. Article doesn't seem to be available online yet.
