Bleeding Freelander 2 (2008)

Hi, everyone.

I changed my Freelanders Fuel Filter yesterday. Unfortunately I followed a youtube video Embarassed . Having seen advice on here today I can see I have made a massive mistake by not filling up the filter with fuel before starting the car.

It ran for a few seconds and then cut out.

Can anyone please help me to get it running again? I have filled the filter up and have bled it using a rubber hand pump attached to the “to HP pump” fuel filter connection. However, it still does not seem to be getting and diesel through.

I slackened off the first injector but am barely getting any diesel through.

Many Thanks

From the fuel filter, there is pipe (the one with the temperature sensor on it) that goes to the high pressure fuel pump. Disconnect that pipe at the high pressure fuel pump and put it on a recipient can.
Connect the hand pump BEFORE the filter and pump through the filter until the fuel gets out on the recipient can.
Then reconnect the high pressure fuel pipe, pump a few more times and try to start the engine again.
After it starts, let it run for a few minutes and then disconnect the hand pump and connect the pipes as usual.

Thank you Alex, managed to get it started yesterday. It took a lot to get fired despite all the lines being full of diesel. But we got there in the end.
