Start Engine button will not start engine

Hi all, I have just been out to try and start my 2007 Freelander 2 and the engine won't start. As soon as I pout key fob in and press the button, no dashboard lights come on but the headlights, fan and radio work. Very confusing. Any ideas what this could be. The battery is 1 month old and fully charged.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Shalow and welcome to the forum,
I'm assuming when you press the start button you're also depressing the brake peddle, as only pressing the button just turns on the ignition without starting the engine.

Hi Dave,

Yes. Following the same procedures I follow every day. Got me stumped.

I have just had the same problem.

First diagnosed as brake pedal switches then when it happened again, after a dead battery was ruled out, it was found to be the starter motor that had died so I only got a click when I pressed the start button.

Hope this helps

Thanks Luke.

Might have to take it to Landrover and pay them several thousand pounds for a job that should only cost a couple of hundred pounds.

Its probably not this at all but have you tried wiggling the steering wheel, I was just wondering if the steering lock hasn't disengaged? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Tried that as well. I'll give it another go, but a bit more vigorous next time.

Thanks Stevie.

From memory there is a thread on here about an electrical connectors in the footwell area of the front passenger seat. The connector comes apart by people pressing hard with their feet and it causes electrical issues, maybe one to check out? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Hi Stevie. Been back out at car and it now looks as if the car's steering lock has not disengaged. Tried wiggling about vigorously to no avail. Tried looking for any loose connectors also under the passenger carpet and everything appears to be in place.
Nightmare this is turning out to be.
Paul.

Someone else here has recently had this and the car required a new 'dock' as it wasn't recognising the key, I may be wrong but not sure if theirs wasn't accepting the key fob at all?

Could always try the hard reset, what you got to lose for a couple of minutes work.
