is yours a genuine G4 FL2 Andy ? if so not many of them around so worth hanging on to just as an investment surely ?

One of only seven
Strangely enough the G4s don't command much of a premium.
My worry is the mileage is creeping up, I need a car for work, and as she passes 200k Clementine might turn into a money pit.
The auto box is playing up when hot and towing, dropped the trans oil a few months ago, and she has been marginally better, so have 24 litres in the garage, and the first dry weekend I am going to do an oil change / flush. If it works it works, if not then Clementine has to go Big Cry

if I was having to replace a G4 FL1 or FL2 now id be very tempted to just keep it as a rarely used drive ornament, especially if it had 200k on the clock and was worth very little if sold.

I love all the camel and G4 LR but particularly the Ultra rare camel freelander1 and the slightly rarer FL1 G4.

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Orkney Grey

Sorry to keep this thread going, my search is ongoing and I'm starting to get a bit bored of it now ha!

Contemplating having a look at this one;

http://www.newbarncarsprestbury.co.uk/used...0148766263

Only thing that I'm wary of is the mileage, I know 67k isn't exactly mega miles but it is more than those I've been looking at and is higher than I originally planned on. Also, there is only 3 months warranty with a 3rd party (auto protect).

But on the plus side, it's fairly new (for my price range), the right spec, looks tidy, has FSH and the dealership is a LR specialist (also someone from work has bought from there before and spoke well of them).

Any thoughts? I keep thinking if I hold out and hold out I'll find something better but I'm now beginning to doubt that!

Thanks!

Well the mileage is more or less spot on for a 6 year old car. So the question is the warranty. Will anything go bang ? That is an unknown, you could pay £1500 more at a LR dealer, perhaps get a 12 month warranty and the car goes bang in 13 months or never. So many pluses and minuses. If the service history is good the engine should be no problem. It's a manual car so check the service history , has it had a clutch ? If not has it been used for towing, ? When were the brake discs replaced ? How much rubber is left on the tyres ? Are there receipts for any other work, diff , Haldex, steering rack, etc.

There is no simple answer, the truth is Freelander 2 can be a fairly expensive vehicle to run and maintain as it gets a few miles on the clock .There are people who have never had a problem with these cars, but then you also know the other side of the coin, there are a few who have problems on older vehicles. You have to accept that there can be high costs of ownership ( compared to say a family saloon ) if something does go wrong. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Thanks, the car in question is auto though rather than manual. It's a good point though, buying something similar at a LR dealer seems to be a minimum of 13k so a fair but more. Certainly more than the cost of a diff replacement through bell engineering I see.

I'll ask the question if any major service/repair items have been done such as the diff.

I dont know if im just getting hung up on the mileage number. As my limit was originally under 60k I dunno if the extra 10k is really a big deal given the car is 1 year newer than some id been looking at on lower mileage.

The auto box is pretty reliable and very nice to drive, I think it is a better bet than the manual and is matched very well to the engine performance. With respect to mileage with correct servicing you should have a minimum of 50k /60k miles of life in the engine and autobox, before you even start get worried. Derivatives of the engine have powered many couriers vans to vast mileages Laughing 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Get an auto, even more so if you are towing. With traffic today it is not worth shortening your life «gnisireggub« around with a manual. The auto is effectively a manual, it is not the old slush box of decades ago. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

with ref to warrantys I was looking to extend mine on my d3 a few years ago,i was told by my dealer(guy salmon) that the extended warranty was not a landrover product,it was through car care!i had some bad dealings with that lot years ago with my td5.i know that no warranty company is a charity they have to survive as a business, warranty direct seemed to come up a lot with a lot of favourable reviews on d3.at the end of the day I think its luck of the draw,no matter who you are with their first thought is to check their list of getout clauses.i would prefer a warranty from a small local garage.none of this makes a jot of difference though as its a "personal"choice.good luck Whistle Thumbs Up

That 60 reg car has the benefit of no DPF to worry about (started in 2011) and not likely to have the 2011 hesitation fault either. It also looks from the pictures as if it might have new discs. Apart from that listen carefully for rear diff noises and don't talk or listen to the salesman during a test drive and get some sort of warranty. These cars can be very expensive to diagnose and fix. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

On the plus side it looks like they are putting through the plot a few FL2's so they must have some idea of what to buy and sell I guess. Down to a good haggle as you could earn a good warranty doing that. Thumbs Up FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

This dealer will probably be working with a local LR main dealer and selling on the cars that are too old to go on their forecourt. I have seen it happen twice when I have taken a high miler in, they called the guy and he gave them a price based on their assessment without even seeing it. In one case a dealer in Somerset had my old FL2 on his lot for nearly a year. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
