Happened to me as well a few years ago, the "transmission fault - traction reduced" message related to the Haldex unit in my case (not the diff itself) and would appear on and off. The fix was a pump within the Haldex unit, if I remember correctly. Was fixed in spring 2013, no issues since.

Traced to haldex pump motor.Had haldex serviced and motor replaced by Bell engineering.Excellent service.
