I would go for a DS because it's the one that would best suit me in terms of performance, size and running costs. Very Happy

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Baltic Blue

Hi Mav 71. yes I was aware that Land Rover had toyed with putting the 2.7 in. I think the EU pedesetrian safety stuff is not persuasive however - they could have easily engineered around that. I suppose if they had been VW they could just have fiddled the testing regime....... Very Happy
More power is always nice to have available when working a 4 x 4 and while the 2.2 is reasonably powerful it just does not have quite enough low end grunt from the box. The Terrain Response stuff is fluff.
The 2.7 and a low range box could have been fab off road. Instead Land Rover faffled about with the software to give more hp for the same cc - not a proper job at all.
We can but dream of what might have been.

Canada 2008 LR2 i6 SE Auto Rimini Red

A Freely with the 2.7 diesel sounds rather nice!

I'd have to say that I'd have the vehicle I currently own again - I love it! Despite a few flaws, there are certain aspects of it that I have not found equalled in many vehicles of a higher price, such as the excellent high driving position and visibility, the Volvo inline 6, the instrumentation (I love having a button for each function as opposed to having to navigate through a couple menus to change just one thing, as with the new touch-screen generation), the performance and stability in the snow and the general look of it.

Now, if we can go into wishful thinking, if it came with all the major faults sorted, that would be the icing on the cake!

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey

The problem is, was that there Freelander 2, Discovery Sport and Evoque are built on a front wheel drive platform with the additional of power going to the rear. So any 6 cylinder engine would have to be transversely mounted.

The 3.0 TDV6 engine is actually a neater package than the 2.7, but what would be the front cylinder head on a transversely mounted 2.7 TDV6 was from what I was told, but 3" away from the slam panel.

The Q5 and X3 and of course the Jaguar F-Pace are traditional longitudinal rear wheel drive layouts, so straight and V 6-Cylinder engines do not offer any problems with the current pedestrian laws.

It will be interesting to see how the press and public take to the forth coming Jaguar E-Pace, as this will be a front wheel drive based car like the FL2, Evoque and DS.

There will be three models to spawn from this shortened FWD platform.

Jaguar E-Pace, which will be bigger than the Evoque, but smaller than the DS
Discovery XXXXXXXX which will be a similar size to the Evoque, maybe smaller
Range Rover XXXXXXXX which will be smaller than the current Evoque

Other than the Range Rover Sport and Vogue, the only 6-Cylinder SUV will be the F-Pace. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Really easy

2008 FL2 - no DPF, auto, in tangiers orange, and air suspension to give an extra 250mm lift when required

I like the 2.2 engine, it suits the lazy nature of the car, I like the auto box it suits the lazy nature of the driver, the driving position is nice, the size is about right, I can live with the fuel economy. Just fed up of cleaning out the mud from the tank/ sump guards.
The rest of the faults can be fixed - ie diff drain plugs, more regular oil changes, earth straps. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

I would get a RR Sport, other half is very keen, but parking is a real issue. Street parking is not an option & our 70 year old garage in our block of units is made for smaller cars.

Having said that, I am happy with the Freelander with the Ford Ecoboost engine, if only they did the Ford 2.3 litre. Basically the car is a Ford in Land Rover drag!

I have seen an heard a few Land Rovers V8 engines, I could buy one on the sound alone, it is addictive stuff! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
