As above, 4mm is the generally accepted minimum for winter.

Recently binned mine at 4mm. Will see how these new Crossclimates make out over next few days as I am heading to the Lakes to go walking and may go up the Greenside mine track possibly. Could be in snow. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I'd agree with that. I have a set of winter wheels and tyres, which are on their third winter now with Nokia SUV3's and they still have over 6mm left equally over the tread.
