New tug test

Had the Freelander out for a test tow up the motorway,it barely noticed the van on the back and what a relaxed driving machine it is towing or solo.

Got to agree, thought my td5 discovery was great for towing but better power weight/ratio makes Freelander 2 even better😉

Love my Freelander 2 SD4 HSE better than the Disco 3 I have just sold, thought I would try one and see how it towed the caravan, not a problem, quicker off the mark than the Disco, love it.

Like yourself Trev, I've gone from a D3 to an F2 SD auto. It was a wise move.

Although I have a heavy van to tow, the F2 never fails in this role. That coupled with the savings on upkeep, maintenance, road tax, fuel costs etc etc, I'm a happy bunny. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

How heavy is your van? we went from a twin axle Elddis Crusader super sirocco to a brand new (not got it yet) 27th November Elddis Crusader Aurora, cant wait. had a 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 gs manual for about 4 week but did not like the hill starts slipping the clutch with the van on, but loved the car, my local dealer had this one just come in and did me a good deal so that was that, not towed with it yet no caravan! but am sure it will be spot on. Had it in for a B service at Guy Salmon on Wednesday and they gave me a Disco sport for the day think that will be my next one, very, very, nice, a lot more room inside than I thought and the 8 speed auto is a dream. The Disco 3 was a pain to get sold and I lost a load on it but glad it's gone, thought I would miss it but nooooo.

It's a twin axle Coachman coming in at 1800 kg. Prior to the D3 I had a TD 4 manual which didn't make the grade when trying to tow the van.
I've just test driven a Disco Sport and didn't like it much. It seemed cramped after the F2, and I don't need the 7 seats. I'm sticking with the F2. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

My van's MRO is 1290kg and its MTPLM is 1440kg,I don't load it anywhere near its maximum the heavey gear(awning)and the like get put in the car.The Freelader takes it all in its stride and the auto box with the sport/command shift just takes away any stress when we tow.

Totally agree, we took our Bailey Pegasus IV to France for 5 weeks this year with our newly acquired FL2, and it was an absolute joy towing. One of the guys at LRE told us about using Sport/ command on the auto box in certain situations and he was dead right. Next year the plan is for 8 weeks, down through northern Italy to Croatia and back through Slovenia and Austria! MY 2013 SD GS Auto

TDI 300 anytime Very Happy ,b/in law had a ex Landover hack td 5 full service history and all that Shocked but it spent more off road than on it we went to the south of France with twin axle caravans were we spent most days repairing his td5 , I had a fl1 and now a fl2 and found both to be good tow cars.
