Overheating TD4

During the summer I took the FL2 on a road trip to the mountains. We started to climb a fairly steep road, but nothing that I though the FL2 could not handle, after all, I was watching regular cars in front of me do this climb.

The car started to overheat and the red light started to flash. This was also paralleled by the car reluctantly wanting to move in first gear without stalling. I managed to free roll the car down the hill to an area where it could cool off and I could start back down the hill. I checked all the fluids and they were all fine, and then headed of home without any recurring problems. Since then it has troubled me and I have not found any answers as to what may have caused this.

Anyone have similar experiences I would appreciate hearing your solutions.

Regards,

Sounds like your engine cooling fans may not be working. I have heard of others having problems with the fan controller. Overheating is not normally a problem for FL2s.

I like to go mud plugging, the mud bakes onto the radiators and can be impossible to shift without striping the front of the car off.

Blocked intercooler will eventually give reduced engine performance.
Block aircon radiator will give you a warm car, although in the UK it would have to be for the one week in July that we actually get sunshine.

70% blocked main radiator is not a problem (in UK) unless you are towing a caravan up the hills in Devon - seriously 70% blocked and had been for months, but the two weeks you get to go on holiday and she starts to overheat.

But first check the fans - the fan relays do die. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

I had a similar incident last week, cooling fans working and NO crud in the radiator OR air filters. It cooled down and as if nothing had happened its been fine since BUT we have the last 4x4 outing of the year Dec 18th and if it happens again I shall not be pleased.
