United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Loire Blue
Huawei

Its that time of year again when my mobile phone contract expires. I always keep the same number but this time, after many years of Orange/EE I'm going back to 02 due to better signal in my house.

Normally I know exactly which phone to have but not this time. Don't want top end due to cost and have been offered a Huawei P9 which will reduce my £31 monthly bill by £7 and increase my data plan by a further 1GB.
The reviews I have read aren't too bad. Processor speed is good but the UI not so good.

Any users on here ? LR Freelander 2 2014 metropolis SD4 auto in Loire Blue.

I used to work for Huawei 5/6 years ago,

At that time they had no support in place for their phones or tablets, so if you had a tech issue with it you had to email or phone the support desk in China which usually meant a 3 month wait for a response!!! We used to get no end of abuse off customers for something that wasn't even our job

I don't know if their support has changed, but their devices and software are normally 'legal' copies of several different manufacturers mashed together to make it their own.

Personally I wouldn't touch their kit, but that's my personal opinion, and may not be fair towards their current quality and support.

I personally won't touch Huawei as they are Chinese with military connection. Scare stories about their products sending data to their server etc. of course it may not be true but you never know!

My works supplied phone is a Huawei, and I really don't like it.
When the screen is locked, I often can't answer a call, which is a pain. I had it changed and its replacement does the same. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

agreed, except Mr Zuckerberg didn't used to be a Chinese Army General....... and Samsung are also doing the same.

Almost the entire board of Huawei is/was ex Chinese military, but they denied all links to the Chinese military.

Every piece of hardware that was faulty, had to be couriered back to china for investigation, it was not allowed to be debugged over here. The same for every software and firmware fault, the logs and data was also sent straight to china.
Even the email and ISP servers were located in china.

Bearing in mind that almost 100% of BT access, Talk Talk access, Sky,Vodafone and EE networks (to name but a few) are run on Huawei equipment..........

read into that what you will Whistle

That's because they're not!

Secure Enclave

Touch ID doesn't store any images of your fingerprint. It stores only a mathematical representation of your fingerprint. It isn't possible for someone to reverse engineer your actual fingerprint image from this mathematical representation. The chip in your device also includes an advanced security architecture called the Secure Enclave which was developed to protect passcode and fingerprint data. Fingerprint data is encrypted and protected with a key available only to the Secure Enclave. Fingerprint data is used only by the Secure Enclave to verify that your fingerprint matches the enrolled fingerprint data. The Secure Enclave is walled off from the rest of the chip and the rest of iOS. Therefore, iOS and other apps never access your fingerprint data, it's never stored on Apple servers, and it's never backed up to iCloud or anywhere else. Only Touch ID uses it, and it can't be used to match against other fingerprint databases.

I got my parents a huawei phone 3 yrs ago , it was ok if you have never had a smart phone (they loved it) but after showing them how to work it it should how good apple stuff is.
Instead of O2 give Tesco mobile a try on price etc .. Tesco use O2 network so coverage is the exact same. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

I'm more cynical Pab, the more I read on the internet, the less I believe any of it, scary stuff out there, my point was to highlight how people blindly follow fashions with little regard to what may be taking place. Neutral

From what I read, the USA and Canada banned Huawei from bidding government contracts.
