Any clue as to what it is Wiz? Certainly sounds electrical,I can go into the house return several minutes later and it's still humming away.

Mine does the same. Think it goes quiet quicker with a double lock on the remote.

You might very well find it's the throttle body valve motor running on due to stripped gears in the unit, starts off as clattering or grinding noise but eventually after the plastic gears have stripped, you just get the sound of the motor.

Normally it just runs the throttle valve to it's limits and then stops but with the gears gone it doesn't reach the limit so it just keeps running until the ECU eventually times out.

Edit; just found the other thread with some useful info;

Clive I think what he hears is an electric whistling sound - not a motor-like sound. I hear it too on the FL and on my wife's sportage also. The sportage does a series of clocking sounds too.
The mechanic said it s the relays resetting themselves.... Completely normal(he said) Rolling Eyes 1997 Disco ES 300TDi - Sold

Just been out and popped the bonnet,as per it whined for a short time on unlocking the car,that stopped then it started whining again as soon as I depressed the brake pedal prior to starting the engine.Ran the car for a bit turned it off to hear the familiar electrical whine.While standing facing the car the noise is eminating from the right hand side of the engine compartment i.e. the area of the battery/fuse box possibly slightly lower down.The noise stopped after 25 seconds (much quicker than usual) with a destinct click as if a switch had been thrown.
Tha car seems to be running fine did some towing with it today pulled well nothing adverse to report on that front.

Ok was a real sado this afternoon and timed the whining noise when I shut the engine down after arriving home.Well when I gave in at 18 minutes it was still going strong..Sorry but you ain't telling me it's still resetting the throttle,it's perfectly normal etc etc after all that time.Its spoiling the enjoyment of the new car now so it's going back from whence it came and they can sort it out.
