Alarm Fault?

After owning my 2007 Freelander for one month now, I am still mystified by the alarm and central locking on it.

Whilst locking it never seems to be a problem, sometimes with one push of the key fob, it seems I can unlock all doors, whereas sometimes I can only unlock the driver's door.
Sometimes, the offside rear door stays locked, or locks itself, yet it will unlock once the dashboard button is pressed.

The other issue- and this is my main concern, is that on a few occasions once I have locked the vehicle, the alarm has started to sound about five minutes after the vehicle is locked pushing the key fob ONCE.
(Hence my contribution in another thread about leaving my dogs in the car).

When the alarm sounds (the high-pitched one- not the panic horn), and I attempt to re-lock the car, the horn toots as if a door is open, yet the vehicle locked with no issues.

To rectify this fault, I have to slam either the driver's door or tailgate once again- depending on which was opened last, and reset the alarm.

What is going on here?!

Are there door sensors and how do they work?

Admin note - merged into existing thread "We're in danger, we've got to get out."
"What are you talking about?"
"I've been called a ponce."

I've just found out more about this battery back-up sounder fault...

Would this be what I am experiencing?

If so, what is the part number or does anyone have a link to a replacement part?

I happened 3 times now during the last 24hrs. I can't keep it unlocked all the time. "We're in danger, we've got to get out."

Can anyone help with sourcing this BSS part?

Mine is doing this- it can't be insects, as I only "single lock" it. "We're in danger, we've got to get out."

I have experienced the very same symptoms....bonnet sensor was the cause.

How does the bonnet sensor affect this?

If it is the problem, how can I solve this?
How will I know if it's a dodgy bonnet sensor or the faulty alarm unit?
Both seem to have been mentioned as causes of the problem. "We're in danger, we've got to get out."

I've had the bonnet switch fault previously on a Disco 3 and I would imagine they're pretty much the same in that area, the giveaway was a very occasional "bonnet open" message on the info display while driving, the cure was a new switch for about a tenner.

Edit to add; this was for the intermittent alarm tripping fault, I'm not so sure if it would have any impact on the locking issue.

I have no 'door open' type messages on the screen at all- whether driving or not (when doors/bonnet are closed, obviously!), but the flashing immobiliser light flashes quickly once the alarm has sounded.

So, does this sound like a faulty alarm sounder?

It's odd that it wont re-lock until I re-close the driver's door though. "We're in danger, we've got to get out."

Just a little update on my situation...

Took my Freely to my local indie garage who plugged the laptop in only to discover a huge backlog of fault codes, which they claimed could be causing my alarm problem by clogging up the system.
These codes were then all cleared and I was told to give them a call if the problem happens again.

It's been 3 days and the alarm hasn't been sounding!
Each time I've come back to the car, I've checked the immobiliser and it still flashes once every second or so before I unlock the vehicle.

Watch this space... I may have just jinxed it... "We're in danger, we've got to get out."
