Amazing number of DS 2nd hand on LR site. OK some are the original 2.2 engine but an awful lot of 2 litre models as well. Suspect discounts available for new models from some of the broker outfits.

When I was car shopping in April I had A broker price of - 5%, I spoke with two local dealers who were quite arrogant and said they could perhaps manage a single percent. I also got calls from them for weeks and weeks afterwards , so much for the " we can sell every car we get approach Rolling with laughter " . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Scotland 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Firenze Red

I saw a D5 today on the A9 , I was heading north & noticed this land rover coming towards me , in the fleeting moment I saw I couldn't make my mind up as to what it was , as it passed I looked in the mirror and saw the offset number plate. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

Well, I went to Marshalls and drove a DS today and rather liked it, so I let them sell it to me. The salesman did say that if I ordered a new one I wouldn't get it till next year - not sure how true that is or whether it's just sales talk. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Hey guys. Just need some advise here. Current fl2 is 7 yrs old and thinking of changing to DS. Should I get the 2.2 diesel or the new 2.0 ingenium engine? Thanks

Forgot to add. Current fl2 is 3.2 i6 petrol find that the 2.0 petrol DS suks.

Ive never driven a 3.2 (wish i had though!) but, if you don't like the 2.0 petrol DS, I'm not sure that you'll like the diesel that much either; it's far more like a petrol engine than its 2.2 predecessor - it's quick (ish), but lacks the great bottom end punch that the 2.2 did so well. The 2.0 Ingenium diesel only seems to work its very best if you drive it like a 2.0 petrol and row it along with the gear lever!

A friend recently had a 2.0 Ingenium diesel powered XE for 1500 miles, while his 2.2 XF was in the bodyshop. He felt exactly the same way, but more so.

The petrol engine is brilliant, I assume they are still using Ford's engine. I't would be even better with Ford's 2.3L! a bit thirsty, but you only live once! I am very happy with 6 speeds and don't see the point of adding more complexity. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Question for DS owners

Can you remove the third set of seats and does it give you a larger boot?

We tow a caravan, so need a towbar and a full size spare wheel - is that combination possible?

Local dealer in Bury wasn't happy about me trying to rip the rear seats out in the middle of the showroom, and wasn't sure about full size spare and towbar.

Sad but our FL2 is worth about 4K, and needs a 3K gearbox, so just thinking about the alternatives - newer FL2, ewok, or DS. do fancy a 9 speed auto, don't fancy a RR badge and a VERY narrow rear window, not sure about the DS, and FL2 is nice but...... Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

don't really like the look of the ewok or DS, but can't help thinking the FL2 is old technology.

TBH I would rather spend 3k on a gearbox, 2 k on a respray, and another grand or so on shocks, rotary coupler, and new seats, but it's a uphill battle with Gill (who thinks it's just a car), and I don't have the heart for it at the moment - she has battles of her own, and it's my job to support her at this point. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Autocar website today:

"The Discovery Sport is the spiritual successor to the discontinued Freelander, but the new car is significantly more fashionable and its strong sales reflect that. Go to Carfile.net and you can pick up a new 2.0-litre TD4 180 HSE Luxury for less than £39k, with a saving of nearly £3000".

I just can't get to grips with the the idea of paying £39k for a car I like less than the Freelander! I wonder whether sales are actually strong at these high prices as I have had couple of calls from main dealers offering "special p/ex deals"?

having had a loan 16 plate DS 180 TD4 Manual HSE for a week, it was nice, it was roomy, smooth, fast etc etc etc but I was still glad to get back into my 62 plate Ewok

The EWOK is a very different animal to the Freelander 2, the seating position, rear leg space and boot space being the only negatives IMO. However I do love my Ewok and only 1 of those 3 negatives... the command seating position.

The DS just didn't float my boat in any way. The EWOK does. The FL2 did.
