Towbar electric question

Hi. My 2012 (13 my) has the black 7n towbar electrics fitted. I'd also like to fit the grey plug to power my fridge and leisure battery whilst driving. Is there an adaptor I can use or do I have to get another plug and wiring fitted?

You will need the 7s socket fitted to car.
Or you could fit a full13 pin electric kit and use an adapter. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-MAYPOLE-CARAVA...nav=SEARCH Andy

Hi Cabbieman. I would guess your single socket is a non LR by-pass relay type. AFAIK, genuine LR looms will be either twin 7-pin socket or the later 13-pin single type. You will need either of these to do a "proper job", which is recommended if you are towing a caravan. With the correct loom the car is re programmed to "know" it is towing. The auto gearbox resets it's parameters, also the alternator, I believe. Also, the reverse parking sensors will be disabled, rear fog light too. If you have a modern van the auto brake/stability system will be activated too.

So that adaptor won't just fit onto my existing plug and power the fridge etc?

The adapter Andy referred to converts twin 7-pin to single 13-pin or vice versa. You need the twin (or 13-pin) to start with.

NB: Prior to buying my Freelander I had already converted my caravan to 13-pin to fit my previous Passat. When I bought this present HSE it was fitted with a LR twin socket loom. I then converted that loom to 13-pin to match the van. (I don't like adapters)

re

hi, its a simple job to change the 7 pin to a 13 pin,
just get a 13 pin socket that is pre wired and follow the 7 pin socket back to where its connected to the cars wiring and then put your 13 pin wires where the 7 pin wires are connected.

the 13 pin and 7 pin will or should use the same colour coding.

wiring the fridge is a little trickier, to do this i fitted a relay and a fused wire direct from the battery to the relay.

just do plenty of research and it will be fine, but do check it before you take the van out just incase

if you arent confident with this then call an auto electrician

As said, the 2013MY electrics is a very simple plug and play job.

Mine had LR 12N and 12S when I bought and swap it over to LR 13 pin. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

This is completely unnecessary.

Just buy the genuine LR 13 pin electrics and plug them in. Nothing else needs doing and it also accommodates the fridge power requirements. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I'd concur wholeheartedly with Mav. Why faff about trying to bodge bypass electrics when the OEM MY13 kit can be fully fitted and fully operational in around fifteen to thirty minutes by anybody.

No dealer programming required - fully plug and play and probably around £100 new from an LR dealer.
