Freelander 2 break-in: no damage

My 2010 Freelander 2 was broken into last night: no damage to doors or windows, and the car was definitely locked - I was parked close to a hedge on my mother's drive and my wife and I had to check that the folding mirrors did not catch it. The thieves rifled the glove compartment, but no other items taken. Both keys and fibs were with us in the spare bedroom.
The same thing happened to my mother's Agila last week (on the same driveway) and to a neighbour a couple of weeks ago. I thought the LR locking system was unscannable, but maybe not. Anyone had any similar experience?

this is worrying, as a work colleague's son had his car (a VW Golf) gone through and no sign of forced entry and he is 100% sure he locked it, they also did a few cars over a few streets, some were old and unlocked

His friends car (also a VW Golf) was done too, he caught them on CCTV, but couldn't see if they unlocked it first, just them rifling the glovebox

This was in Leeds

Is there a new device doing the rounds, that opens doors? Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Hmm, I came out to mine a couple of weeks back and when I started it, the dash said 'Front Left Door Open' I was certain I had locked it and no one had been in the passenger side.
Nothing had gone, there is nothing to go so put it down to a brain fart, maybe it wasn't?

I will keep an eye on it, slightly off topic, if the door is opened somehow will the car 'come alive'? this would activate the camera in my case.

Practically our whole street was done nearly 10 years ago. The Police caught them and they were using a 'modified' mobile phone to send out signals to unlock cars. Our FL2 had the contents stolen from inside a few years ago and you keep wondering...Did I lock it?

If they are just into theft from vehicles, I suppose its better than smashing the glass or bending the top of the doors out. Whether this method still works on newer cars......Maybe it does. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Hi, I thought the horn sounded if a door/bonnet or tail gate is left open when you use the fob to lock it?

Some scumbags are using a blocker device so that if you use the key fob to lock your car remotely, the blocker just prevents the car from receiving the command from the key fob so the car does not lock.
It is worth glancing back to watch the car lock, don't assume it has locked..

Worth checking that all the doors are actually locked, after pressing the Fob, a worn actuator in the door will still let you believe the door is locked. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

On reading the previous posts went and tried my doors, car locked, mirrors folded in and the rear drivers door opened but the alarm did go off, I've checked it several times since and all doors locked ok.
Going to have to make a habit of checking the doors when I leave it.

Best idea is to bite the bullet, and replace the lock, it's not going to get better all by itself.
Have replaced both rear doors and the passenger door on mine, they all failed within a 12 month period, not a 5 minute job, but not too difficult. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

We have a brain dead office junior who started at our place earlier in the year.

Past her test and leased a brand new Fiat 500. She often forgets where she left her keys and recently admitted that when she goes home at night she doesn't lock the car and leaves the spare key in the glove box just incase she cannot find her main key in the morning! Rolling Eyes

Needless to say after a brief talk explaining that car thieves are not quite as thick as her she now locks her car and the spare is out of the vehicle... Rolling with laughter

By coincidence today we were talking about CB and other radios. A colleague said that his neighbour is a ham radio obsessive and can sit in his car twiddling his knobs and pick up the signal from someone's key. He allegedly enjoys preventing their car from locking (blocking the signal) but claims he can capture the signal and really spook people by unlocking their car for them as they come back from their shopping. Colleague (or his neighbour) could just be bullsh***ing but both are LR owners so can't be all bad! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.
