No radio reception when cigarette lighter being used.

Hi All
I have a problem with my fm Radio reception.
It is not very good.
But when I plug a phone charger into the cigarette lighter
Socket the reception totally goes.
I can only hear interference.
Also if I switch the rear screen demister on.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can check?
I know the arieal runs to the rear window on the drivers side.

Well I keep hearing different things.
Can anyone confirm where the fm ariel is?
Is it the rear screen or drivers side window?
Also if it was the demister why does it happen when I use a charger?
Any ideas.

I had a similar problem with a Ford C-Max I had. Would only get interference with charger plugged in in poor FM signal areas.
Proved to be a poor cheap charger. Must have been feeding something back on power loop.
Changed to a more reputable make charger and problem solved.

As Freely uses a lot of Ford electronics maybe similar issue.

I would try another charger. Andy

Ok I have removed the rear trim at the top of the tailgate. There are press stud connections but nothing running to them. Checked inside and no loose wire inside which had come off. The only press stud connection I have is the one on the rear side window. Is there anyone who can say 100% where the fm ariel runs to on a UK vehicle? #confused

Its often the charger that is the problem.
Is it, by chance, a USB socket that you plug into the ighter socket so you can use a USB lead? They are the worst for interference.

It is also very common for some to interfere with tyre pressure sensors, causing false readings.

Try using a different charger.

This is deffinitely not an issue with the antenna so dont waste your time tracing that back.

Ibam confident in this as until a few years ago, I was the development manager for the radio supplier to Ford, BMW, Vw and many others.

Hope this helps. FL2 HSE Lux 2011 SD4 Gallway Green.

Ok it's not the charger.
When no charger plugged in reception is very weak.
Turn a corner and it looses signal.
If I press rear demister total interface.
If I open my boot I get reception good.
And no I can't drive around with the boot open.
😆

When you say it loses signal when you turn a corset, do you mean the turning action causes it to lose signal (I.e. Does not matter what direction you are going in) or is it the change in direction that causes the loss.

The antennas are directional to a degree.

Are you in a weak signal area or is it the same everywhere?
Has it changed suddenly? FL2 HSE Lux 2011 SD4 Gallway Green.
