I've got exactly the same issue (the hesitation/ not picking up)
Been back to the dealer a couple of times, doing an air path reset solves it temporarily...
No fault currently found, although the last time, they had the car for 3 days to do multiple road tests... Turns out they only did one road test but spent more time messing with my dashcam to hide the fact that the one road test was a thrash, so wouldn't have picked up a hesitation... Let's just say discussions are ongoing, as they didn't know about the gps tracker... 2000 Xei 1.8 gone
2004 HSE Td4 Auto, MT's, sump guard, sliderz - gone
2014 GS Man - AT's, Mantec Sump guard and tank guard, split charger in boot, towbar, work in progress...

I've a similar problem, most noticeable when in Sport Mode. Press go pedal, pause, nothing then a sudden 'lurch' as the power comes on and I set off.
The fault is also noticeable when I press the go pedal when the engine is in overrun, when I want to pick up speed, there is the same pause then lurch as everything kicks in.
Been back to dealers with the problem once, and they did a software upgrade that seemed to solve the problem for a day. Its back in tomorrow, so I'll see what happens. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

OK,
Not one to let the grass grow etc, hoiked the beast down to the dealer today, got one of their Master Techies to take it for a run, what I thought was tyre noise when setting off is in fact the EGR unit- not doing whatever it is it does-what do I know? it would appear that this is the problem and is quite common despite the initial receptionist saying, "but you have LR assistance!!!" that's fine and dandy but when on Saturday I am wooshing down to the south of France, don't really want to be waiting for Pascal and his tow truck-
Apparently getting it back tomorrow- will update. when I get said beastie back. Thumbs Up Hit it he said, Hit it!--So I hit it, then he hit me---Doh!

worth checking that the brake lights are doing what they should. If the brake switch is lazy when you release the brake the ECU shuts the throttle of until the signal from the brake switch confirms pedal is released.
Much more noticeable on an Auto.
Ensure brake pedal fully release before hitting throttle.
Do check to make sure brake lights going off the moment you release the pedal, although some cars have a dual switch that can be defective and wont be seen through the brake lights.

Evening All,
Just collected Beastie from the Dealer- New EGR fitted, no quibble, under warranty.
What a difference- hard to believe to be honest, a major change to performance
Suppose it is like a clogged artery, slowly getting poorer and poorer in ability until-wallop,
Valve changed, cleaned through system, just like new.
Impressed. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Hit it he said, Hit it!--So I hit it, then he hit me---Doh!

Might be difficult for Maffy as he/she has a 2015 car
But for those of us with older cars it is an option. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Hi Andy, most deffo a HE! never been confused with a girlie before!!!
Mine is a company car and I am sure you can't blank the EGR on the later model.
My old TD4 (freelander1) had the same problem so I blanked it, again a huge difference and it never failed an MOT.
If you can blank the earlier models then I say go for it.
Thanks Hit it he said, Hit it!--So I hit it, then he hit me---Doh!
