We ordered a Nazca Sand with Tundra / Alpaca Interior Automatic with Winter Pack, and were quoted 12 weeks irresepctive of spec, unless you took a standard car from dealer stock. |

How delivery times are defined is a big mystery to me. I ordered my FL2 on January 30th and the production date is sheduled for June 18th so I should be happy to get my car end of June. All together: 5 months.

I understood from my dealer that dealers can order lots although they don't have a physical order from a client. Those lots are allocated depending on expected demand. That makes sense Quercus but it is only valid then if one agrees about options choosen by his dealer or wants a standard version. (both as you said already ordered by the dealer when the car owner signs the contract) If one orders a customised car - as I did - it is logical that the delivery time is longer. I'm just wondering if in this case the delivery time is the same everywhere. |

Here is how the ordering system seems to work........................... Customer decides on the spec they want and pays deposit/ agrees part ex value. Salesman suck on teeth and tells customer that the spec he wants is very weird and that it might take 3-4 months for a factory ordered car "but Sir you could have one nearly to the spec you would like direct from our stock and delivery in 7 days" Customer say no thanks I want one with pink seats not black so dealer clicks a few buutons on his computer and tells the customer that's fine and BTW delivery in 4 months, customer goes home happy because he's ordered his new car. Now the salesman gets to work and goes into the Land Rover Dealer Stock website and finds out if any nearby dealers have the spec the client wants in their compound. If no joy there, then he searches what is in the storage area near the factory and finds a car there that possibly has a few more extras than the client asked for so he sticks a reservation on the car, and contacts the client and offers a better spec or near exact match with delivery in a couple of weeks. Customer says no thanks I want what I ordered so the dealer creates an order to the exact spec and takes the reservation off the car in storage. Dealer then keeps an eye on the factory stock every 5-6 days and suddenly finds LR have produced a car to the exact spec, slaps a reservation on the vehicle and then calls the client and says that all of a sudden the factory has become super efficient and that the client's car will be ready 6 weeks earlier (for example) than client expected. At this stage dealer doesn't cancel any order for the original car that the client requested. Why????? Well what the dealer (if he is a really good dealer/ saleman) should have told you when you ordered your new car that up to 36 hours prior to construction commencing you can actually CHANGE the spec and add/ remove factory fit accessories or even the colour! A less than good salesman won't tell you this. Now back to the original car - client collects his new pride and joy and is none the wiser, dealer is happy as he's sold another car, but he now has a build slot available that he might not have had before and HE can change the spec of that car anytime up to 36 hours before building starts.

I have been buying Land Rovers since 1992, not all of them factory order or taken from dealer stock, but I have learned a thing or two about how dealers operate from my experiences with 3 dealerships in Central Scotland. One of those dealers I will not even go passed the entry to the grounds their service to me when I was replacing a V8i ES Disco with another was so awful............................ the dealership I use now cannot do enough to help, except they never give me a discount when I buy a new car! The only thing I have had free out of them was one of their logo'd umbrellas after I spent £43000 on a new FFRR! How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?
