Disco Sport and "Premium" ethos comprehensively ru

Very searching and at times amusing review of the Disco Sport here by Aussie John Cadogan He does not mince words - he turns 'em to slurry!....
http://autoexpert.com.au/buying-a-car/land...ry%20sport
Even if the reviewer's style is a bit coarse, I don't think he is far wrong - a very mediocre car - comprehensively bettered by the Korean upstart for example.
Even more convincing is his devastating critique of the LR "Premium product" blather which unfortunately has taken over as the company ethos. Damned and Doomed we Land Rover fans are.....

I take it Australia don't get the ingenium engine?

Just read it again, the review is over a year old, March 2015. It's a better car than he gives it credit for and I ain't a fan but I would be willing to try another one, this time an auto. I wouldn't take the Santa Fe over the DS. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I'm no DS fan, but it does rather come across as if he's had a very long liquid lunch paid for by Hyundai! This looks more like the airing of entrenched bias, rather than objective journalism.

Three FL2's so far and each swapped in at the end of its 3 year warranty for a new one.
Last week I was given a Discovery Sport for the day while mine was in for a new bonnet switch, it was quieter, the ride was fantastic, the 8 speed automatic was smoother and the touch screen much more up to date and responsive, in fact it was much more modern in every way. But I was underwhelmed, beat the FL2 in most departments and I wanted my car back, so much so that I will be taking out an extended warranty and having my first MOT next month.
It gives me another year to decide on what next to go for, whilst the DS is a nice car it did nothing for me at all Sad

The DS is a shop bought sponge cake, looks tasty but just lacks flavour. That was my problem, on paper it's the ideal car for me and it was a step up from my Fl2s but I just didn't enjoy it. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Got a DS out today whilst my FL2 is in my local LR dealer for its service.
First time I've even been up close to one, never mind driven one ......... Oh Dear Neutral

All that mass of hard plastic fittings and trim .... with it's resultant squeeks & rattles.
And that tunnel vision through the rearview mirror.

Though I wouldn't be dissapointed if I gave my FL2 and 25-30k cash in return for one ...
.... I'd be suicidal!!

Certainly doesn't deserve the Discovery badge, not even a Freelander badge.
Can't wait til 5pm and getting my FL2 back.

I pity my Disco brethern if this is a flavour of the D5. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

DC courtesy car

My dealer recently loaned me a DS while my cherished FL2 was having its 9th annual service. Unfortunately it was a pretty basic manual SE Tech. Gearbox aside it drove fine, as a car, but I remain underwhelmed by the car-like feel and lack of quality interior. If you contrast it with the new Jaguar F-Pace; its third rate sadly, and certainly not worth £40k plus for a well specced one. Confused

Still hoping LR will eventually produce a new model that many of the remaining FL2 drivers will happily buy; but not holding my breath!! Life is not a dress rehearsal!

I had the 2.2 engine, tried and tested in the Fl2. I can't comment on the ingenium engine never tried one, haven't heard anything bad about it but fuel economy ain't any better than the 2.2. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

Ive currently got the DS 2.0 TD4 180 HSE as a courtesy car while my Evoque is in getting some minor warranty work done.

Its a 16 plate, 3k on the clock and is currently on their website for a few quid under £39k

the engine is smooth, very quiet, very responsive, reasonably torquey and gets down the A1 very nicely when it was clear Whistle

The car itself...........
still trying to get used to the seating position (its neither low/snug like the Evoque, or high/commanding like the FL2 or D4)
its got lots of toys (I like the 4x4 info so you can see how often the haldex kicks in)
pan roof is a nice touch
its also got quite a few rattles from trim all over the place already
the boot floor still seems too flimsy and weak for my liking
the drivers seat is fully back but my legs still feel a little cramped.

would I buy one.... no, would I recommend one... yes but at that price I would expect zero rattles and better interior finish.

We are 3700mls in on our DS after coming from FL2 then Evoque , not had any sqeaks or rattles yet but know quite a few have (on DS forum).
We find driving position better than Evoque but not quite as good as FL2 , did 900ml trip last month without issues and passengers commented on comfort and room in the rear seats .

Wife was out in it last night and had the exhaust filter warning up on the dash , she only does short journeys and maybe the Ingenium engine isn't as tolerant as the 2.2 in the FL2/Evoque .
Went for a quick 30min run at motorway speeds when she came home so hope that helped . FL2 gone now in 2016 Discovery 4 Loire Blue .

The big beast is in for its service today, so I have an Evoque with ingenium engine. Not quite sure what I was expecting but it seems just as rough as the old PSA engine, don't really get all the hype over it and perhaps it's because I'm used to the power of the Disco, it just feels sluggish.

I think the 2.0 240 SD4 is off my list for my D5. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Thanks for the advise guys. After hearing about the 300bhp petrol ingenium engine that is in production, it's best to wait. Rolling Eyes

Parents had a Freelander 2 and loved it. Then had a disco 4 and loved it. Then a disco sport and were very underwhelmed by it and ended up part exing it early. It had loads of electrical issues, poor interior quality and generally lacked anything special about it. They're now back with a disco 4 again.

I'll soon be picking up a freel2 to replace my 90 due to our first baby but I couldn't see myself with a DS. If the DS continues in this way I hope they don't mess up the defender replacement with another stupidly upmarket model ala DS, Evoque and RRS
