Some thieving skanks smashed into my beloved SD4 last week and got their dirty thieving little hooves all over the contents of the boot. The load cover was closed but still rolled back with the boot shut. I wonder if there is any way of 'locking' the load cover from underneath to prevent other scum doing same..... There is a picture of my poor beast in the gallery.

If they are going to break the glass they would just cut the load cover to get in.

Without putting a solid load cover in and putting in bolts underneath going into the side panels, there is no way of doing this that I can think of.

and what would stop them from then putting a rear side door window through and dropping the seats ?

unfortunately there is virtually no way of stopping these smash and grab scrote bags who are too stupid to be able to steal the keys.

I feel your pain on this, but thankfully its just a smashed window and a few hopefully replaceable items.

If you are keeping items in the boot, that are desirable then maybe a cargo barrier, and below the load cover, install a solid shelf that locked/screwed in place, that way you can store more none desirable items on top of the shelf too Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Some years back, my Passat Estate was entered by jemmying the drivers door lock and powering down all the windows using the so called "convenience feature" we also have in the Freelander. You can delay a smash and grab by getting a security tint placed over all your windows. I've got mine done and I would highly recommend it.

I have privacy glass which seems to be a film over the glass. They levered it out with a crowbar and smashed the rest. Nice!

Could they have known or seen what was in there?
Seems odd to go to that trouble for what could have been an empty boot.

It appears that over the past week or so there have been many thievings from vehicles occurring around here. I hope they burn in hell.

I remember back in the 70's a girl in the office got into her car (a Datsun Cherry) in the Arndale Centre car park in Manchester and immediately felt that something was wrong. The back window had been removed but nothing stolen. The police were called and they said they had had a spate of thefts of back windows of this particular model in Manchester. The believe 3 teenagers saw them put their gear in the boot, followed them and when they nipped in a shop they pounced

I had a boot full of camera stuff but it was old light stands, an old tripod and a few empty camera bags. I hope the poor skanks weren't to disappointed with their haul..... A friend of mine once had his hot hatch Ford Fiesta XR nicked from an Oxford car park. When the car was eventually recovered, it seemed that all his stuff was stolen apart from his favourite leather jacket. I guess even thieves have a level of taste!

Had ours broken into via the rear window using a screw driver or similar as a lever to break the glass, pulled it out with tint and all they got for their efforts was a bag of clothing destined for the charity shop and a pouch of small tools.
In the pouch was my favourite 12/14mm ring spanner that I had used for years.
Luckily there was only very minor damage to the bodywork.
We were parked in a country lane laybye near to the start of a footpath, so beware.
Police said that there had been several similar thefts from cars parked in remote country parks Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?
