Factory iPod connection kit; DIY fit? & cost

As per title really

How much is the kit, and general fitting cost or can it easily be DIY fitted (I have built a Westfield, fitted carphone kits etc, so I have a reasonable amount of experience with auto electrics) or does it need dealer Laptop to activate something.

TIA
Mike

England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Baltic Blue

Fitted mine myself without any real problems, despite a certain amount of nerves when cutting away bits of the speedo surround and drilling a hole in it to fit the ipod mount.
I got mine from Yeovil Landrover:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...WLIST#LIST

This looks like a newer version as it talks about the Ipod touch etc. and suggests that the ipod goes in the glovebox.

Fitting instructions for the earlier version can be downloaded from the Landrover owner info website:
http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/extfree2viewlrprod/index.jsp

Hope I pasted the links correctly

Good luck - well worth the effort in my view He who dies with the most tools wins!

Fixed the links for you (don't think the ownersinfo fully works)

You need to "" and then "" at each end of the link, without the " ", same for IMG's

I hope you didn't buy from Yeovil LR on eBay Shocked

Thanks for links.

Seems to be a fairly major dash deconstruct to fit. Is it an easy job? Did you end up with any squeeks & rattles afterwards.

Looking at the new accessories brochure it doesn't show the dash bracket just a glovebox lead will this mean less dash to strip?
TIA
Mike

Once you have pulled off the speaker cover on the middle of the dashboard and the little tray below the screen the rest mostly unscrews (Torx fixings) Once these are out you do have to pull off the surround bit of the center console but that was pretty easy. The rest wasn't hard, all the wiring just plugs in and it all went back together ok. No squeeks or rattles.

As you have an HSE they may fit inside your spare rim in the wheel well. Smaller wheeled specs may struggle Whistle

Would be a pain in a Disco as you would have to wind the spare down with its winch every time you wanted to change tunes Thud

United States 2008 LR2 i6 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey
New Version Factory IPod Connection Install_ Glovebox

I did it about a month ago and the install isn't too bad. Very expensive though, approx $400 US.

It isn't hard to install, because the cables only fit 1 way. The hardest part after you pry the center speaker cover off ( I used the two plastic "roadside assistance" cards in the glovebox placed together as a soft pry tool) is that most of the glovebox has to be disassembled to put the mount in place for the USB/RCA input, on the ceiling of the glovebox. There is also a "brain-box" that has to be sticky taped to the firewall.

Works like a charm... Sounds GREAT!

I think the part # is VPLAE0001
