Correct. It's just for aesthetics - the wheels look better with the weights out of sight on the inside, but some fitters don't bother and just fit standard weights to the outside. |

Great to know thank you, just gone over my 5 tyres (inc spare) and found that 4 of the 5 have weights on the outside. Hopefully if I approach a local garage with some beer money, they would be able to move these inside the wheel for me! |

Ask them to use a combination of sick-on/clip on weights on the inside only. All balancing machines have that facility. Our one even had a 'hidden weight' programme where you can fit the stick-on weights behind the spokes and therefore out of view.

Upto 2004 LR commonly placed the clip on balancing weights on the outside of the rim. After a few years it made the alloys prone to blistering around that area due to a build of grime and road salt happily nesting in the area.
