HEATER TEMP CONTROL SENSOR ASSY change!?

hello.

our freelander 2 has problems whit ac.
sometimes it blows steam from ventilation and carpet is wet!

so far dealer have tryed to find reason, it have cost allready 650euros and now they found the reason. HEATER TEMP CONTROL SENSOR ASSY - EVOQUE - FREELANDER 2 - DISCOVERY SPORT.

one litle sensor somewere behind handbox rightside. They still havent changed it but if they do it will cost 135euros more. 1h labour and part price.

this is ridiculous that one tiny part will grow so huge bill!

question, does anybody know how easy it to change, avoiding next huge bill....

they told that there is 10celcius difference between sensors and thats why ac freezes and blows steam and carpet is wet

I take it your talking about the "evaporator temp sensor".
If so the dealer should know as there would be a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) being triggered. Is There???
It's simple to remove from the passenger side foot well (RHD). Should have a solid pink and solid brown wire attached with a white plug. Change sensor and all should be well if that is the problem!
But there will be a dtc loged so verify this with your dealer as they should have a message like
Below. Only difference it will list "Evaporator Temp Sensor" rather than "Air Quality Sensor"!
If not then it's not malfunctioning.

i asked dealer that didnt they find codes, they said no and there is not supposed to be code from that, maybe they lied to me? they gave me lr partnunber 003200 that needs to change, so is it that you writed? tell me so i can go kick they arses.

Haha thants rubbish!
The "Evaporator Temp sensor" most certainly triggers a DTC!
I accidentally triggered it so I know it does!
Sounds like they're guessing to me and don't know what they are doing, no surprise there!!!!
If it were me, go in, tell them to plug it into SDD and show you the diagnostic report.
If they refuse, take your business elsewhere and tell them that's what you will do!
SDD will tell them exactly what is malfunctioning and if they know what they're doing (doubtful Rolling Eyes ) and enter in the symptoms will list the steps to resolving the problem.
Lr003200 is indeed the "SENSOR - HEATER TEMP CONTROL ATTACHES TO EVAPORATOR"
It is a part of the HVAC LIN harness so will, along with the air mix actuators (qty 5) and air quality sensor will log a DTC with the HVAC ECU that it's failed or out of specified operating tolerances. MY15

the wet carpet and steam out the vents sounds like it could be a blocked drain plug for the air con especially as no DTC are being recorded for the sensor, as StuartC says, it sounds like the garage is just guessing

.... drain tube is located under the centre console in the front footwell. Just remove the plastic kick panels in the footwells and you should see the drain tube. Give it a squeeze and/or remove it and clean it out.

I had the exact same symptoms on my 2008MY

They first thought its blocked draing plug, they air blowed it allso, + tested windscreen if its leaking. No leak, no blocked drain plug.

Then we took car back, and at first day it started again to push steam to windows and carpet totaly wet, Then we booked time again, they said they will take it to in to litle peaces whole dashboard, and now they did it and told that its this 3-10 pounds price sensor which is faulty and there is 10celcius difference between this and another sensor and thats why it freezes AC. i asked DTC to this fault but they said it wont give, and it has not given any.... So ARGH! i ringed now to 2 another main garages and they just bla bla bla, that its possible that it wont give any DTC, if it is in tolarance and bla bla bla, and they dont know for sure if it will give DTC at all...

im so Censored off that total bill atm is over 650 atm, and needs 1 hour labour more + this litle part number to fix this Very Happy....

i just need to be 100% sure that if its not working propely it should give DTC? so will march back and ask for SDD and show me results

PS, i have checked once this drain plug by my self =)!

Simple Answer..... Evaporator Temp Sensor will give DTC if faulty - fact?

Want to be sure...... run vehicle without A/C running/auto off/just fan (button off), earlier models run in ECO mode as evaporator/compressor off, so that evaporator is disabled, if wet carpets and steam no longer present, then its evaporator related. MY15

Done that, no steam no wet carpet, it stopped immediately steam when switching to eco.

And now everything seems to be fine, but AC ON no steam and no wet carpet until it gathers ice and starts melt, dunno.

Hmm, question! How the hell did they get this 10Celcius difference, not whit multimeter, hell no! DTC Wink??

with a faulty "Evaporator Sensor" the evaporator temp will fluctuate so you will get extreme variations in core temp. This is why you get the misting, damp, excess water production. Especially in humid climates. MY15

The evaporator temperature sensor is used for A/C compressor cycling. An accurate evaporator temperature is critical to prevent evaporator icing. The
temperature measurement is used by the HVAC module to turn off the A/C compressor before the evaporator temperatures are cold enough to freeze the
condensation. This prevents ice blockage of airflow over the evaporator core.

Maybe they found this way this 10Celcius difference, but maybe we all agree that it should and gives DTC even its faulty, broken or not in tolerance!

The HVAC ecu will regularly request information from the Evaporator Temp Sensor on the LIN circuit. If the information is not present or outside acceptable tolerances then it will log a DTC on the HVAC ECU - Fact! MY15

Stuartc, what do you think does normal car carage OBD, OBD2 scanner find this sensor error DTC.

Here is nearby few places where they charge 15pounds for scan, instead of driving long way to maindealer, then i would have the paper allready whit me so i can easy kick arse!

I can't comment about other diagnostic equipment as I don't use it.
I use SDD and know what it can do and from reading posts on here it's clear that most dealers don't understand or have not had enough training to understand what they are doing or what SDD is capable of, especially in diagnostic applications. Saying this you may find a few who do I strongly urge you guys to find these technicians. Clearly dealers have very little practicing knowledge about CCF and flashing ECU because they're not allowed to, simple as that! Dealers have to apply for an engineering password and most the time LR will carry out the work remotely if at all.
SDD shouldn't leave any doubts in your instance for diagnosing the fault and offering the user a logical process to remedy the fault. MY15
