Car is due a MOT next week, I normally take it to main dealer but going to take it to local garage this time, is it safe to put it on the brake testing rollers as its a 4x4 ??? Please don't post a reply unless you are 100% certain.

I had mine done at a main dealer for the first time this year, but before that it's always been the MOT testing station up the road with no problems. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

The above link is not quite the official version. This is - look at section 3.7. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/syst...hicles.pdf

In our station, we have a 4WD option on the roller brake tester. If you used it 'normally' with a permanent 4WD vehicle, it would throw the car out of the rollers with both rollers going the same way (or damage something). In 4WD mode, the rollers spin in different directions so no problem. If they haven't got that system, they will take it on the road and use a decelerometer machine in the vehicle. Either way, they MUST have a method of safely testing the brakes on any vehicle presented for test. If for any reason the method to test your cars brakes is not working, they must refuse to test the vehicle. If they damage anything during the test it's down to them so don't worry, they won't just chance it. Some stations who don't have a 4WD roller brake tester and can't be bothered to dig out the decelerometer have been known to, ahem, just enter some brake test figures that will pass the vehicle. Not sure about the roller problem but I had mine done at the main dealer and all they did was drive it to the nearest MOT garage!

My local village garage picks it up from my house, takes it away for an hour or so and brings it back with a new certificate. What happens in between I dunno!
