I was cleaning my 2011 Sport earlier and noticed something strange. With the front doors open I can see that the front wing on the driver's side is filled with grey polystyrene foam but the passenger side is not. What I is the purpose of the polystyrene and am I missing some?

I don't think that is normal.

I've attached some pictures to show the difference. You can see the foam in the second picture but it's much easier to see when looking at the car.

Oh right yes that looks like what they put in between panels i thought you meant like the expanding foam stuff It's most likely right but has moved a bit ?

Just checked my MY10 and it has foam inserts in both sides.

The more I investigate the more it appears my car has had quite a few body panels replaced in the past

Does anyone know the purpose of the foam?
Should I worry about replacing it?
IF so how easy is it to get the wing off, I'd be worried about re-connecting the air intake.

The foam is probably just sound insulation.

That video is really useful, it shows that the foam isn't very deep and they describe it as a weather seal. That area is bone dry so i'm going to leave it as if, to many things to go wrong removing that wing!
