What is the maximum roof weight on a Freelander and in any case do you intend to put both the boat and the trolley on the roof? If so that amount of weight must have a serious affect on the stability of the outfit! Ralph

I think the max weight is 75KG for the roof

My Thule roof bars weight 4.7kg each IIRC that leaves about 65.6KG for the load Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I find my freelander an excellent tow-car, I tow a twin axle Bailey Wyoming and the car is fantastic,
Never had a problem towing.

On first towing trip with 2012 freelander2 and more than pleased with it,s performance in towing a 1400 k van ,into cruise control at 60mph on motorway for 50 miles

It's interesting to read different people's experiences on here and read the different laws in the UK.

Australian built caravans tend to be much heavier, I guess so they cope with the poor country roads.

The law here says the maximum you can tow is the least of the max the towbar is designed to take (stamped on the towbar by the manufacturer) and the max the car's manufacturer allows for the car. Both the local LR version of a towbar and the Haymann Reece aftermarket version are rated to 2000kg max with a 150kg max ball load.

I have a 19 foot caravan that we tow with a 2009 Nissan Pathfinder. The van allegedly weights 1400kg tare. Loaded for a of a month on the road we are topping 1900kg gross. So in Aus at least, it would be legal to tow with my Freelander 2. Brett Nicholson

How come the Discovery and Defenders can tow 3.5t ? Common sense isn't very common.
