Mish Mash Seats?

It's just dawned on me that my car seats don't match front and rear and wondered if anyone could shed some light on the matter. My FL2 is the XS model 2008 I've only had it 7 weeks and it has black leather and blue mesh front seats. The rear seats are a black cloth (see photo). The door cards are blue mesh so would match the front seats.

My question is was this factory standard or is there a chance someone has changed the front or rear seats? I'm a little baffled as it's also missing a seat belt in the rear which makes me wondered if it was ever used as commercial van?

Can anyone help?

if you log on to TOPIx (Land Rover site - find it on Google and register) it will give you the full original spec of your car. If it was a commercial it should show up there I think. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Interesting, so I've registered and logged into TOPix and its come back with the following. Would you agree that this means it is/was a commercial vehicle that someone has converted?

I'm not an expert but I should think it does. The equivalent for my MY13 HSE is DW12 2.2L DSL 5DR HIGH, so I'm assuming that "commercial" means what it says. You could also look at the Registration document (V5C). Mine has Body Type - Estate and No of seats: 5. If yours is a commercial it should have Number of seats: 2, I imagine. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Spot on sir! V5C says No of Seats - 2 / Body Type - Light 4x4 Utility! So my rear seats have been added at a later date hence why they are different!

God knows what I've bought! Confused

Shouldn't be a problem if fitted correctly BUT you need to tell your insurance as it's a major modification (or take the seats out until you've worked out what's going on!) I'd be inclined to look for a local independent LR specialist (you can probably get a recommendation on here) and ask them to give it the once over. I would not take it to an official LR dealer. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Oh Dear
If you have had it from a dealer take it back for a refund.
Even with a private sale if the vehicle is misrepesented you have some comeback.
I have just managed to reject an MGTF on a private sale for the same reason.
If you paid via credit card or paypal get them on board to and dont take no for an answer they take a fee for the transaction so can't then say its nothing to do with them.
Assuming thats what you want to do. Personally I would as the vehicle will always be a van conversion.
good luck and please let us know how you go on.
Andy

Thanks all, It was a private seller from Auto Trader, perhaps I've rushed into it as I was under pressure from the wife to get a car! Perhaps I was naive in not checking, however the seller seemed as dumb as me!

So today I've had the seat belt reinstalled and had a new MOT which it has passed with flying colours.

I assume I need to tell my insurance company about this since I have only found out all this information since posting it 24 hours ago. Am I right in saying that a question of 'Are there any modifications to the vehicle?" would be a yes, since it is a conversion?

I'm sorting the V5C tonight and sending to DVLA tomorrow to reflect the change from 2 to 5 seats and the change in body type.

Can any one tell me why it would/may lose money if I did sell later down the line, is this because it's not a true FL2?

i would expect that you can only sell it as a commercial FL2, albeit with a conversion, not a true FL2 XS (or what ever model it is)

i would still speak with the seller, to see what they bought, did they do the conversion, does a V5 tell you the first owners details, you might be able to work out the timeline when it was converted Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

You may not loose money and full marks for getting it 100% sorted as if you had sold it on later having not picked up the issue you could then have bigger issues I guess. If its got a fresh MOT and new paperwork I would not worry too much. If the insurance changes a great deal let us know as no real reason why it should if 100% legal on the road with same engine etc etc.

Its a FL2, a friend has a Disco Commercial, he told me its built as any other is then stripped down to become a commercial.

Check whether the rear passenger windows work - I don't think they do in the Commercial. There are threads on here about it and how to enable them. If it were me and I was otherwise happy I'd look to keep the car. I'd still want to get the conversion checked by a mechanic, preferably LR specialist. I'd also look to put in matching seats - they come up from time to time on e-bay. If insurance are awkward try a LR specialist like Adrian Flux. I don't think the resale value will be too much affected given the age of the car. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

To match the seats you don't need the whole seat just the exterior cover, could convert to leather full sets come up on ebay. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
