The green lobby has won. Tata to land rover!!!

Lr sales collapsing day by day. 600 staff going. Taking the cash before lr goes bust. Thank you green lobby for killing off a great company. What are henry and henrietta going to drive to impress at the school gate? Horse and cart??? You think the uk only country to cause co2. Sad days ahead. Don't forget pay to drive will come in to recoup losses from 0 road tax cars. Landies aren't to blame for climate change pity media blamed 4x4's for it. Fed up goodbye sorry to see jag land rover bust before xmas. Live your life be free-lander

Shocked Lr2maker

I think its wise to take the cash, if its enough to make ends meet till something else comes along.

I guess in these times we will just have to see what happens, I'm sure Jag/Land Rover ain't the only one been hit hard

Thanks for all your snippits of information over the past year or so

I think Tata will pull out of the UK, make cars in the far east and export them back to the UK to what will be a very small market! World wide sales will keep Land Rover afloat but in the UK I think 90% of dealers will go. Stornaway grey SE auto with 18" alloys

Sorry to hear that lr2m, but I think all of the car makers are getting hammered at the moment, its not as much the green lobby its more that people have stopped buying cars/holidays/houses etc as everyone's afraid that the sky is falling in.

My contract finnishes at Xmas, I was going to buy a new car (not replacing the Freelander, but our other car). I'll hold off until I know when cash is flowing again.

Hope it works out! I know Phil Popham & he's been working hard to convice Tata that emissions are where things are heading and with fuel prices/recession etc maybe Tata management will now listen! Having said that, I bought a FL2 because of the poor mpg on my other car & I'm now getting double my old mpg Thumbs Up

I don't think the green lobby has won, to be honest everybody has to head that way before the oil runs out, but the economic setup at the moment might bring it into focus... a +60mpg LRX in mass volume will make alot of sense in a couple of years!

Easy - according to the LRX press release...

"The LRX concept marks a bold evolution of Land Rover design, signalling the brand's potential shift into new areas of the market, while remaining true to its core values. As the company celebrates its 60th anniversary during 2008, the three-door LRX, with its more compact size, lighter weight and sustainability-focused technologies, clearly addresses the needs of a changing world and offers the potential of 120 g/km CO2 emissions and fuel economy of 60 mpg (4.7 l/100km) on the European combined cycle."

LR2m,
Hope you enjoyed your time at Halewood and wish you well for the future.

i can't see 60mpg either

Taking a lexus RX400h that my dad owns, obviousliy its a 3.0i petrol with a bank of batteries, but that only get 25-30mpg on average and my dad drives like he has Miss Daisy in the back seat.

I would say they are similar sized cars, shoving a diesel in wouldn't get a 30mpg increase IMO Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
